Official 2011-2012 NHL Regular Season Thread; Second Period

Well that game was a total disappointment for the Rangers. Just couldn't get out of that deficit from the get-go and Washington played an incredibly tight game.

Holtby was certainly a surprise. That kid knows what he is doing and looked great. The game could have easily been tied at certain points.

Washington was the better team on the ice and now they're the 7th seed. Doesn't look like Florida is going to lose, so it'll be Caps v. Boston and Rangers v. Ottawa.

With any luck, Vancouver will play as poorly as we did later on :) I don't think we have any Canuck fans on TB haha

Yeah, Caps did look really (uncharacteristically) good tonight. Holtby is kind of a Washington secret for the time being; he's young and still has bad games, but he's got a ton of upside, and we're all really excited about him... his emergence is the reason we traded Varlamov prior to this season.

I'm not sure which of the possible teams Washington could have played in the first round (New York, Boston, or New Jersey) is the lesser of the evils, but at this point, Caps fans are just happy to have more hockey ahead of them. Boston's a tough team, but we're something like 3-1-0 against them this season, so I think it should be a good series.

It should be a good series with the Caps - don't put too much emphasis on the head-to-head record, Washington played 3 of the games while the B's were lost in the wilderness from Jan 14 to March 15.

I went to my first NHL game and watched the B's erase a 3-1 deficit in the 3rd to tie the game and then win it in a shutout. :D

I can't believe how fast the game is and how hard it is to track the puck when a hard shot is taken.

I wish the B's health was a little better, but at least they are skating and playing well lately.

And the Caps were without their #1 center (and at the time, leading point-scorer) in Nick Backstrom. Point being, who knows what'll happen? I don't see either team winning it in fewer than six games.

Playoff time is so much fun! :D

Point well made and taken.

Baseball is my first love, but there is nothing like playoff hockey. The B's are one of five teams with 100 + points on the season in the East, but unlike basketball, 1 and 2 seeds do lose in hockey - 2009-10 all three division winners in the East were bounced in the first round; in 2010-11 all three division winners in the East went on. I can't wait.

Baseball is my first love as well; first sport I played and I've followed it closely for 40 years. Then again, I've followed hockey for 40 years. After last year's cup series (and I mean all of them), I could hardly watch baseball last year.

Now, after the ridiculous debacle that was the Red Sox, and the three-ring circus of form over substance they have become, hockey is really the only game in town this time of year for me.

Dear god,
I've been good this year, really good. You know I'm suffering and the flyers are hurting. Please heal and make everyone healthy, and please bring lord stanley home to us. I know we have a chance and others have won with less. If things work in our favor and with a little bit of luck.

Amen.

Come on boys, play every game and come together. Forget everything but the task at hand, become legend, or become nothing. Now lets go Flyers.........
