I don't think Torts should apologize. It's hockey and these things happen. It sure is leading into what will be some fascinating playoff hockey!

I haven't seen anything about Orpik talking to the media. I'm sure he'd say he was wishing Stepan a speedy recovery. Aside from the unfortunate hit on Cole, Brooks has established himself as a hard hitting, clean playing body checker. He's the last person on the team I would expect to try to hurt someone.

I think all this complaining and **** talking is really just about the playoffs. Malkin and Crosby haven't suddenly changed their play styles in the last ten games. Crosby will always be plagued by the fact that everything he does is under a magnifying glass and amplified by the media. Does he play a little dirty sometimes? Does he whine to the refs sometimes? Of course. But so does everyone else. He doesn't have the most attractive of personalities so I get why people like to rag on him, but he really doesn't do anything differently than other players, and he definitely doesn't ask for the attention.

Anyways, hooray playoffs! Very excited :) I have tickets to Game 2.

The hockey media usually hype the rivalry games that follow previous powder keg games. What I've noticed is that it usually doesn't live up to the hype.

We Flyers fans are gonna be led to believe that Vitale is a marked man,...(call it clean or dirty but he did manage to take out Briere who has always been a solid Playoff performer for the Flyers,...and Grossmann who has been an excellent acquisition for the blueline) but barring any antics in this specific game; I don't think the Flyers are gonna be going after Vitale. There is a bigger picture to focus on and they need to continue their success @ Consol as that is going to be pretty important if they are going to win the series.

There was a lot of hubbub made about snatching home ice advantage,...but if I'm honest,...from a team perspective,...the Flyers have been an excellent road team,...and being able to win on the road is really key to be a successful playoff team. Home ice advantage amounts to squat.

All IMO at least.

Funny cause I'm completely comfortable with the 5th seed.

It's the depleted defense corps and slow starts/falling behind a goal or two that worry me. The Flyers are gonna have to play really solid team D. I'm glad they find ways to come from behind,...but teams will start bearing down in the post season,...gaining that killer instinct and Flyers luck will begin to run out.

I'm also unsure what to think about all these rookies with no playoff experience at this level. I'm hoping that they have the energy to take it up another notch,....but mistakes will be magnified at this point.

Now would be an excellent time to start getting guys back into the lineup.

Oh and I'm pretty much a Caps fan for the 1st round of the Postseason.

And where, among NHL fans, do you expect to find unbiased fans?! You're certainly biased. I'm biased. We're all biased for our favorite teams.

If you're referring to fans of teams other than the Flyers or Rangers, you might be surprised to find that a lot of fans think Crosby & Malkin draw more penalties than they should; and get called for a lot less penalties than they should. Yeah, that's probably true for other superstars around the league as well; but Sid has been unofficially crowned the "face of the NHL". So yeah, I think he gets away with a lot of infractions that others would be called for. Even HE admits that he was swinging the lumber with impunity in that last Flyers game. He shattered sticks with slashes several times, and wasn't called for any of them. Do you really think that if a Flyer had done that to him, the Flyer would NOT have gotten a slashing call?

But hey, it's a rough game. The best we can hope for is that it comes close to evening out in the long run. Sadly, these threads are beginning to take on a "not-so-fun" tone similar to what happened for awhile last year. Hopefully, the mutual-respect factor that used to permeate this thread isn't dying out...

Replace your sentences with any big name superstar and the same holds true. Refs do miss calls. Just because they miss a call on a superstar does not mean it wasn't called because of who they are.

Basically I'm just sick of the whining. Shut the hell up and play hockey.

PS Pens called up big Mac. What a joke that guy is. Will be interesting to see if any Flyers are stupid enough to drop the gloves with him.

A little West Coast Hockey drama. Considering the Sharks are hanging on for dear life to the final playoff spot, I would be a very pissed off fan if the Sharks make it in by a couple of points. This is blatant cheating, totally bush league.

With 2:45 remaining and the score tied at 5-5, the Kings’ Jarret Stoll was leading a power-play rush up the ice, looking for the goal that would move the Kings one step closer to the Pacific Division crown. As Stoll skated by the San Jose bench on his way into the Sharks’ zone, San Jose forward Ryane Clowe deliberately reached onto the ice and poked the puck away from Stoll’s stick, then sat back down onto the bench. The play killed the rush, sent the sellout crowd into a frenzy, and had the Kings literally up in arms

Stoll immediately shot his arm up. Dustin Brown pointed over to the San Jose bench. Drew Doughty slammed his stick on the ice. The only people among a standing-room only crowd of 18,330 who didn't see the infraction were the four officials on the ice — which is bizarre, considering the incident occurred while the puck was on a player's stick.

Of course, this happened in game No. 81 of the season, between two teams that entered the night separated by one point in a three-way battle for the Pacific Division title — and left it tied at 94 points

I have never heard or seen anything quite like that. Amazing that it was missed by the refs but the camera saw it. I can't believe that had it been called that it would only be a 2 minute minor - it is pretty blatant cheating - I'd make it a 5 minute major that the opposing coach can ask for a review like in the NFL.

He said "Brain cramp," I'd like to see him try that excuse after getting pulled over doing 100 MPH on the I-5 or forgetting to declare all his endorsement money on his tax return - I'm sure the CHiPs and the IRS would be as forgiving as the NHL. :rolleyes:

That sounds like it should be a 5 minute major for unsportsmanlike with a game misconduct. Definitely should be reviewable by the league as well.

This reminds me of a game a while back where there was a line brawl and a player jumped off the bench to get involved, which seemed very faux-pas to me. This was arguably worse because it affected the immediate play of a live puck on ice.

It's not like when a ref gets caught up in the mix and unintentionally disturbs a play, this was deliberate and geared to stop one team.
