Yeah, but they were also done in a streak with no salary cap or parity. One of the teams that held the record had four wins against teams that had a combined twenty wins! And the Bruins team that did it didn't have to travel any further west than Chicago. Plus shootouts and OT's also give you more opportunities to lose a game too.
I still think it's an incredible accomplishment, and if it's so easy why are there no other home winning streaks longer than 8 games this season? The longest home streak since the agreement is 14. Does it mean they're winning the cup? Who knows, the second season is just that. And I also suspect that they will be players at the deadline with about 6m in cap space.
Went looking around at the standings today knowing the Isles have been moving up a little bit... a little hot at 5-3-2 in their last 10 thanks to Nabakov... Then came across the goal differential column on the ESPN standings site... ACK!!!
Top 8 in the West are a powerhouse, all in the positive and quite strongly so... Then I loko at the East. UGH! 5 are pretty weak, 3 in the negative.

Now I know why the Rangers-Bruins two nights ago was not the national game, NBC put the Canadians-Bruins on last night. The Canadian game was a better result for the B's (OT victory with Thomas stopping all three shooters); but the Ranger game was better hockey.
Montreal fans cheering when Chara took a hard clearing pass off the chin (he went down and needed 15 stiches) was not real classy and stood in complete contrast with the Montreal player who did show genuine concern.
To my Philly friends - the B's shootout strategy is to have their best shooter - Seguin - go second. The idea is probably that if the first guys scores, another score might end it right there and if the first guy misses, Seguin acts as a sort of firewall that at least gets you on the board and gives you chance. Seguin's goal was simple and sick; he skated straight in at moderate pace, Price was not moving, so Seguin blew a wrister past him - no stickhandling, no moves, just a laser inside the post.
EDIT: in the interview afterward, Thomas attibuted his success in shootouts (5-0) to not practicing them - go figure!
Marchand had a borderline clip that wasn't called. Disappointing since he had been behaving himself pretty well so far after his last suspension. The Montreal hit will probably not get him a suspension, but he just shortened the leash he is on and will get a quick whistle for the next week or so.

That Marchand clip wasn't really "borderline," and it was called, at 20:00 of the second period. But the Bs aren't finishing their checks, the passes aren't tape to tape and their movement is lacking. It's prettly much been this way since the Phoenix game at the end of December. They are 12-9-1 since 12/28/11. Good enough to hold the second seed after a great November and December, but it won't be good enough come April. Horton may not return, and now Peverley is out. Stay tuned, I guess.
Woo-hoo!!! The dang 27" tube TV that has been hanging on for dear life finally died yesterday!!! Picking up a nice 42" 1080P 600Hz Panasonic Viera plasma on the way home tonight to watch the Flyers in HD tonight for the very first time.

If your are going to be watching it on center ice like me it is in standard def tonight. I just checked, Lightening vs san jose and calgary and dallas are the hi def games tonight. Flyers are on game 3 and 4.
I never understood how Center Ice doesn't broadcast all games in HD and that is the reason I never paid for it.
I can't say I'm all that bummed about the Pens losing to Anaheim. Hiller came in hot, and the whole team is fighting like mad for a playoff spot. As a huge Selanne fan, I was stoked when he faked out Fleury. That brought me out of my seat.
Keep on keepin' on Anaheim. I really hope they make the playoffs.

Hard to be upset about a loss where Malkin hits the post 37 times, you keep the puck in the offensive zone for 3 line shifts and then one of the greatest scorers to play the game beats you for the GWG. Can't win them all.
The whole sequence in the Anaheim zone felt like a "rope a dope" from the Ducks. They let the Pens fly all over the ice trying and trying and trying to score. As soon as the Pens got tired, the Ducks took off the other way and Selanne put a beauty behind Fleury.
This may be a bad offseason for the NHL if a few of the best decide to retire. Not as bad as the deaths last year, but still sad for me at least.

Cool game winner from St.Louis. The Lightning have something like a .400 chance to make the playoffs but I still enjoy these games.

I stand corrected on the penalty, my bad. Coming at the end of the period so he didn't go right to the box is what threw off my memory. Marchand must be warping my judgment on clips - this one wasn't nearly as bad as the one that got him 5 games although he still might get him a game for overall lunkheadedness. Although Shanahan might cut the Bruins a break since Gill's knee on knee hit which injured Peverley wasn't even called.
With no Horton and no Peverley for the foreseeable future, they need to trade for some help up front.
Marchmont is off the hook - no meeting or call with Shanahan. But I hope Claude whacks him upside the head a couple of times so he'll get smarter out there. We can't afford to lose him at this point.
And yes, we're going to need to make a deal. Brockton's own Josh Hennessy will get the nod for tonight's game in Winnipeg. I'm looking forward to seeing him up with the Bs (trade bait, perhaps?). He's a center, but will likely move to wing with Kelly and Pouliot.
