Just grabbed a svt II rack mount and a 810e today for 500 bucks (Craig's list).
ripped tolex

the amp works fantastic for about 20 minutes then starts to distort and vary in volume. i think it's a power tube. looked in the back and a one seems to be glowing blue when signal is applied. don't know why the tubes are mesa boogie! is the tube bad, biasing?... i was born in the 80's, tubes are mysterious to me.

thinking about replacement tubes

can kt88's be used vicariously or will the extra watts blow the transformers. which replacements tubes will blow my mind?

too poor for NOS... thoriated tungsten seems cool!

could i also get added to this wonderful group of hip cats with so many great stories and ideas? i am willing to be digitally hazed.

Sign me up! I have a late 90's B-2 combo with the single 15 as well as the
SVT 15E speaker cab. Great rig for blues clubs and add in a little bit of Sansamp
dirt it makes my P and J basses sound fat and delicous.

Hi! Have just found this website and noticed quite a few of you have bought used SVT-100Ts. I know there's basically no info about the place about them, and even less from Ampeg themselves. As you all know, they're great amps, and being in such a small package, they've got great punch! I bought mine new in 1991 or thereabouts, and it's done me well since then. Apart from the metal knob covers being very poorly glued onto the knobs and falling off within a matter of days, there are a few reliability issues. If you find the amp tends to cut out after a while, the reason the slow-blow fuse blows is largely down to poor connections between the power amp and the pre-amp. Don't expect it to be serviced by an Ampeg dealer these days, especially if you live, like myself, in the UK. It'll also shred your drivers periodically, so it's unlikely any of you have the original Ampeg-branded 2x8s, beautiful sounding as they were. Ampeg have long discontinued these drivers, and like almost everybody else, 8" speakers at any other resistance than 8ohms have been replaced by larger stuff. I've found suitable replacements at a reasonable cost are the Fane Sovereign 8-125s, available at www.fane-international.com, but Eminence also do the Alpha 8, though this is not technically a bass driver. Customer Support for Ampeg gear, especially in the UK has been consistently awful until recently, but this great bass amp has been long forgotten. My favourite sound from the old girl is Low up to about 8 (pull-shifted if necessary), Low mid kept down at about 4-5, High mid up to 8 and High up to about 7. This works great with my '60s Antoria P-Bass. All in all, this amp is pretty rugged, long-lasting and produces consistently great sounds. Keep it serviced by yourselves or your local electronic whizz and it'll last another 20 years. I'm really glad I'm not the only one who owns one of these ultra-flexible solid-state beasts and I hope I've been of help.

By the way, I forgot to ask... can I join your hallowed society please? Have been an Ampeg man ever since I bought my pride and joy, the little SVT 100T combo back in 1991 and still play it now. Cheers, and fingered salutes to Trace Elliott!

GAS and tubes got the better of me... That and that sweet deal on an SVT 6 PRO. That little Green power LED had to go.. Swapped it for a UV LED. Now I glow when I stand in front of it... Looks WAY sweet on a dark dark stage before performance. :bassist:

Sure gives your back a workout. "Oh let me help you with your amp" hehehe....;)

they're all gone -

Portaflex B-15 or B-12, the kind hinged to a cabinet so it like folded into it, don't remember the size of the single speaker, bought it for a 1/2 an oz. (around 10 or 20 bucks back then ), gave it away. i saw one like it in Guitar Center for a lotta $, it better not be that one.

a V-4 with 4x12 cabinet rig

used these seperately, master/slave & together:

One early 70's SVT- square back 8x10 cabinet (a famous group's name stencilled on the back)
One blue line 70's SVT - angled back with the handle & wheels ( the same famous group's name stencilled on the back as the other one )

for whatever reason, the better sounding SVT was the black lined with the square cabinet standing vertically.
