Official Ampeg Portaflex Club

The guitarist in our church band is rearranging his music room at home and this amp has come to rest on our stage for a while. I'm having fun with this while it lasts since I've never played an Ampeg product or a tube amp . Real nice sound. Instrumentation is drums, bass, electric guitar, Hammond organ (sometimes), acoustic guitar (sometimes), keyboard and 5 voices. This amp carries our moderately sized room just fine for a band that plays a very reasonable volume. Figured you guys on this thread would appreciate it.

You think? ;) Very nice...I love that style of cab cosmetics. Would love to see them bring it back, too.

So this isn't your amp? I'd likely give you a number anyway if you wanted, but figured I'd better ask instead of presuming.

The rich tones from this amp blend well with a Hammond organ. The size and styling are good for a church as well.

Of all the different iterations of the B-15N, these black and gold models had the shortest production run, so you don't see them as often as their Blue Check predecessors, or the black Thiel cab's that followed. They're very distinctive.

Just an update on my M-15 intermittent hum issue:

The good news: the intermittent hum has disappeared!

The bad news: the unit now hums all the time, and this hum is now loud enough to be audible in the room. The amp still sounds fine when played but clearly something is broken.

I've moved onto my B-50R for the time being but I'd like to get this fixed. Is it worth trying reseating the tubes, swapping out 1 tube at a time from my B-18, or should just bring it to a tech?

On the plus side, something changed. This should be a relatively easy fix for a tech that knows these amps so hopefully it won't take much to get it working. There are many possibilities and they can narrow it down quickly.

If you had some spare tubes, it wouldn't hurt to try swapping. The first three can be done by pulling the first, then replacing it and pulling the second and see what happens. Then pull the second and put it in the third position. Try a different tube rectifier. The tube is made up of two diodes. If one is bad, you will get a lot of hum. This is where having a solid state plugin can come in handy. If you don't have a 5U4B a 5AR4 can be used for a test if you have one in another amp.

I would like to know if anyone who frequents this forum has recently listed a PF800, and PF115he, (with port modification) on eBay.

I had on odd bidding experience on the above described rig, and would like to post a link to a thread I started (in off topic), here to see if I might get a response from the person who listed it. I think they might read this forum, (considering the port mod), and I would like to understand how this happened. If the seller decided to un-list it, I understand. (I own more Ampegs than I really need anyway). It was weird that there is no evidence of this listing, and eBay could not explain it. I fear I may be dreaming/hallucinating about obtaining more of these wonderful amps.

Thanks for the heads-up, beans-on-toast.

I think Ill just have to see if eBay can at least let me know how a listing, with a bid can evaporate without a trace without the bidder being notified. I usually add things I bid on to my "watch list", but did not. Probably would been removed there also, anyway. Strange.

I have also seen listings disappear.

One possibility is that it was some type of scam. Maybe a photo that was lifted from the internet of the bass rig - or a hijacked account. I have reported a few of those myself.

I don't remember Stiles getting a PF800 (pretty sure he had a PF500), but I could be wrong.
