Picked up a new Ashdown RM-500 head and two RM-410T cabs -- can I get a number? No pic from the wild yet -- will the invoice work?

Interesting to note -- I ordered the RM-MAG-410T cabs, but got the RM-410Ts, which I can't actually find anywhere. I know they're different because they're listed at 500W and have the white cones of the newer RM-210, RM-610, etc.

I don't know much about the cabs, but that head rocks. I have the RM 500 EVO and that thing is loud, grunty, and versatile. The compressor and drive work really well. I usually run the compressor and drive around 9:00 and the amp sounds great. I read a review where the reviewer stated that cranking the drive sounds great on the intro to Deep Purples Space Trucking. Yep, I tried it with the SUB and it did. I've used small amounts of the SUB, but prefer not too. It sounded ok at low levels, but I felt it robbed the amp of some punch so I no longer use it. Congrats on your new rig. I have a feeling you're going to be happy with it.

Just got a new Ashdown Rootmaster 500 EVO. I love the tone I get out of it but I have a question about the sensitivity of the VU Meter.

The manual says to adjust the input volume to give a reading of 0vu on the meter for average playing dynamics with occasional peaks into the red region.

I have an active Ibanez SR-400 and the only way I can get this to happen is when I plug the bass into the passive jack and turn the input volume to its maximum. If I plug the bass in the active jack I cannot get any needle deflections.

The amp seems to be working properly except for the VU Meter.

Is the VU meter just a gimmick that doesn't really work, or could this be an indication that there is something wrong with this amp?

Any input is appreciated.

I also own the Ashdown Rootmaster 500 EVO and it is a beast of an amp, seriously. I also cannot get the VU needle to hit the red on mine in active mode with an active bass. I wouldn't worry about it, I can get it to move at 3:00 and playing aggressively but not red line. Now if I switch to passive with an active bass I can get it into the red, but then it does not sound good. Don't worry about increasing the gain to 3:00 and beyond because it really brings the amp to life, so does a little compression and drive.

I usually have the compressor at about 8 to 9:00 and the drive at 9:00 and it sounds full and round, YMMV. It could also be that your Ibanez isn't very hot. Again, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yes, it may be they gave in to demand for a 410 like the older MAG 410 except a plywood construction. The older black-coned MAGs were mdf .

I had barely any needle action at all (ABM 400) on my Stingray 5, even plugged into passive jack... Got a passive Aria SB bass, though, and the needle was dancing like it just didn't care. Both basses sound great, despite the odd needle response. SB's are probably wired really hot, IMHO.

Just got this. I am seriously impressed so far! Way more grunt than I expected from a 100w all tube head. Its not a totally clean sound but with gain and master vol at about noon through my ABM 610 its a great rock tone. Surprisingly easy to move around due to the 2 top mounted leather handles too.

Going to use this with the full band tomorrow.....

Bet you'll be thrilled.
Per my Post #391 above, this is a great head, nothing like those (2) big bottles inside for tube goodness.
The push buttons under the eq and gain give this amp a tremendous amount of versatility and flavor too.
I'm not as robust as you about carrying the head around, I have a dolly under my cab and that's how I ROLL!:cool:
