You got it right mate. I did mean the PF500-115 financially I can afford it and as you stated Ampeg has this "sound".... The SVT would be my dream rig but for that I need to save some serious money and right now with our first newborn... Well, the SVT can wait!
So you liked the PF500 head with a 410. Now this is another option: I have been also thinking in maybe just getting the PF head and use with one of the Ashdown 410 cabs I already have... What do you say? Did u get to try this combination at GC?
I heard about the hissing problem on some Ampegs, was that from the head of cab? How did the head behave when you tried with the 410 compered to the problems you mentioned previously?
Reading Ampeg's specs their freqs are on bass 40 hz and on treble 4khz and the 5 different middle freqs. Ashdown's Mag bass knob works at 100 and treble at 7kHz. The Mag has a deep and bright bottoms (like the ultra low and ultra high for the Ampeg) the deep being a boost of 8db at 40hz so, for me at least, the way to get closer to Ampeg's is hitting the Deep bottom ON. 7 bands is definitely too much and actually on the Mag I only play around with Bass, Middle and Treble besides the deep engaged. The LoMeds and HiMeds I set them always flat.... end up with some sort of 3 knobs action as I could get out of the Ampeg, in my way, YMMV

I have just been reading the thread about the PF350/500, bassman64, and got to read quiete a few post from fellows TBers about their issues. I can tell IME with Ashdown those things didn´t happen. I´ve had the head for over a year and the only faulty thing that has happend is that after my first gig with the amp the light bulb of the VU meter has blown up and doesn´t lit anymore as for everything else the amp is great and believe me I push it to just a little below the limit, the meter is always straight up just right before the Red Zone!

good to hear Nick, I just got a return authorization for the Mark Bass and I ordered the MAG C210T-300 EVO II Combo.
I am just winging it at this point and hoping for the best. try something sight un seen...worked last time when I got the Ampeg B100R.
oh and BTW, damn Metric system. I thought the damn amp weighed 35 pounds which I thought was a little on the light side...turns out its 35 KG....77 lbs!!!! had to pay 20 bucks for the shipping....lol
I am stoked
thanks its been a big help.
unlike other "Amp fan clubs" on this forum, you guys have been very nice and not condescending, if your personalities are anything like this amp I got me a winner
thanks again
Chris

But this amp may just work for my smaller rooms like tonite.Just posted in a Ampeg thread how I tried my MAG300H Evo II with my 4 ohm, TB153 cab+ Skyline JoBo 5 w/Sad flats for first time.
....Pretty dang awesome sounding rig. Course but end of nite band got pretty loud and I had the Input/Output knobs totally cranked. Don't like doing that but the rig stayed clean and full sounding. Not even any breakup, lest I pushed the bass' knobs or dug in. Meter stayed down almost off even at those settings. That compressor knob really works well on this head, impressive to me.
I usually use my GB Streamliner 900 with this cab in this band. So I was very impressed with how this 300 watt amp did tonite. As usual, no PA for me and walked out into the room with my new Line 6 G30. Very pleased with what I heard. I'm really leaning towards that Spyder 550 more than ever now.But this amp may just work for my smaller rooms like tonite.
Thank you Chris, it has been great exchanging experience with you. Enjoy your new Ashdown... they are Rock & Roll man!
Last night I had a small gig and right there, with the fridge behind pumping that "sound"... well I have been contemplating the Ampeg idea but now I know that no more fussing around with PF stuff, if I have to upgrade than I will spend the cash and get a proper pro Ampeg SVT but until then I am happy with the Mag.
Last night it rocked and it was also my first gig with the recently strung set of LaBella DTB... you know what:
PRECISION - LABELLA - ASHDOWN that´s the Holy Trinity for the sound.
Once again enjoy your new toy!
Take care,
Nick

If I were you I would see if your local store has a PF just so you know for sure with your own ears but as you saw, lots of negative discussions.
I just looked to see your location, thought you were in Australia because you called me mate the other day....
you have an advantage over me by living in Europe. you have stuff over there we cant get to easily here.
when I was looking for a new amp 10 years ago I really realy wanted to try a Laney Amp. Most of my favorite stuff from Black Sabbath was played through that brand in the early days of the band. I could not find that stuff here for anything.
1 guy actually one 9 miles from me was a Laney dealer. had one small guita amp and it sounded nice. when it was time for me to try to get a Richter he had some trouble
have you seen those over there and are they worth a damn these days?

thats great. what type of music do you play?
I got a set of Rotosound Swing bass 66 that I need to get on my Ric. I want to keep it as is till I get the new amp. another week wont hurt. they are only 11 years old at this point...lol

Woah, way off the mark bro.
Im an old fart that plays in a few Houston bands that do blues-rock, new country, disco/soul/funk. I can still jam well but nuttin like what you suggest.

The "mate" thing comes from my London years... 5 actually!!! I love that place, great experience and got to meet my wife there... I am Italian, she´s Spanish and today we are living in Tomelloso, 2 hours drive from Madrid (we did live in Madrid but I haven´t updated my profile yet)
Unfortunately I didn´t get the chance to try the Laney yet. As for the PF, even tough I´ve read the threads, we are always curious animals, so eventually I will give it a shot... but I will keep the SVT in mind, I guess, after last night´s experience, it doesn´t make much sense an unpgrade from Mag to PF but as we agreed from Mag to SVT, well that´s a different story.
We play Originals, it is funny because we don´t have a proper music style but I like to say we have our Style. I am very funkish, psychedelic, motown and 60s/70s rock guy plus a good bit of grunge, the other guys (1 guitar player and the drummer) they also float around heavier rock, metal, and some rockabilly and as for our main lead / solo guitarist, he´s more into blues, 60s rock and local stuff. At the end of the day you can feel each player´s personal influence in our style and we blend it pretty well. Overall you can get a lot of what I mentioned above on our tunes, I like it, we have funk tunes, blues, rock, harder rock... and psiche-funkadelic ones...
I love Roto 66... Got a set on my Squier Vintage Modified P. They rock.... They have a real nice growl and are the only rounds I use for the rest I am a total flats person... been thinking in trying GHS P Flats on it... oh, man, we start talking about so many variables here... this is nuts!! Sometimes I think my wife thinks I don´t speak about anything else besides bass, strings, amps, bands, music.... My best friend is from NY and he´s going to boy my boy´s Godfather next month for his Christening and he´s bringing the new American Std Strat to my little one. It´s my gift to him from the year he´s born.
My little one´s first album after we left the hospital it was DSOTM - you gotta love Pink Floyd!!!!
BTW: Ric is on my GAS list together with the SVT, hehe! Oh, and a Fender CS P too!!!!

I'm very curious about those. I'm still waiting for one to appear in our local shop.
