OFFICIAL ASHDOWN CLUB

Played my first gig tonight with my Ashdown Little Bastard and Ashdown VS-112 cab. Played my Hofner 500/2 Club bass, WOW!! What tone and warmth and presence. I can see and hear what the big deal is about tube amps now! Played two 45 minute sets and the rig performed perfectly. Guitar player and drummer both raved about the rig and my Club bass.

Yeah!

I was in a music store today and decided to check out a few amps and bass's.

suddenly the 15s dont sound good anymore.

I think I am hooked on the 10's

Nice... The world seems very different for you now, my friend! I am vary glad you are enjoyng your new rig and reading your previous post about the new Ashdown Mag300, don´t you worry, I´ve been reading about it and there is no much difference besides they have a built in drive... however the Mag doesn´t have the footswitch option like the ABM so there is not much sense in having a drive that you can only engage it pushind the bottom. You could try their Ashdown HyperDrive LoMenzo, it is a nice OD pedal that works only on the freqs you choose over the clean signal, leaving plenty room for a very nice clean rounded bottom when adding the dirt. I personally add dirt on the low-mid freqs... with this pedal but you can really use in plenty different ways from mild blues to some real heavy stuff or kind of trying to achieve that SVT dirt-feeling (that´s the tone I try to get out of it)

Listen, Presto, the page´s OP has given me two club numbers... take the 006, if you want or I let him know he has doubled me.

Take care Chris, ciao!

BTW - the Rick rocked, it was a 4001 and I liked it, it sound good and the feel was fine. I want to try a 4003 before I make up my mind....:bassist::bassist::bassist:

yeah, I have reconsidered being annoyed about the EVOIII being released as its a "emulator" sounds like line 6 crap to me....

the only thing I am still annoyed about is the less than advertised wattage. I wanted and needed a 300 watt amp...by itself. why would I have bought something so big and heavy if it still needs another cab to get 300 watts.

I have been talking to a local Ashdown rep and a local store about getting me a Dual Tube 330 touring amp.....waiting to find out the true wattage of that amp before I do anything.

as much as I am digging the tone of this amp, if I cant get the 300W I am looking for in a single unit I may have to go for the GKMB210..

I dont want that to be the case. I like the sound and vibe of this amp.

anyway, glad you liked the Ric. the 4003 is a little different in sound and feel but not much...its still a Rickenbacker and there is just no substitute for perfection

hey Nick,

let me ask you or anyone else who may be experiencing this.

when the eq is in, I am very limited with the mid knobs as well as the treble. I get an annoying buzz through the speakers.

I have made sure I am not near any electronics that the p/u's will pick up. changed outlets that are relatively new compared to some of the old wiring in the house. The new outlets and wiring are new as I installed them my self in parts of my house that I remodeled and what not but I still get the hum and cant really turn this amp up too much because of it....

never had this issue with my B100R in the same outlet in the same spot

That is weird...

I haven't had such a buzz on mine. It is true I have a head and cabs but still you should not have such annoying noise.

I believe you have tried already different things: EQ all flat and twisting the knobs one by one cutting and boosting. Have you found a EQ you like the most? Do you have that problem when set in your way?
Have you tried different basses? I know you have a Rick, try some other brand, model?

I know some Ampeg, specially the combos do have a constant hiss but I haven't heard abou that for the Ashdown.

I am always open to some amount of hum normally from the bass but not really from the amp.

Only thing I suggest is that after trying out different alternatives as I mentioned before get it changed if the problem still persists.
You bought it recently so I guess you can still return it. If you are not totally happy don't keep it.

Take care mate!

I have found a few settings I like and at low volumes you dont hear the buzz too much but the minute I turn up a but more than "bedroom practicing" levels you get the buzz.

I used 3 different bass's through it. all passive, J, Steinberger and the Ric.
the Ric is supposed to be a "noisy" bass but its actually the quietest of the 3 through this amp.

I pulled out my B100R (Ampeg combo) cranked the treble and mids all the way up, plugged in and I barely get any sound out of it using the same outlets, cables and bass's...

I decided to try out a few of the rigs on the market before I found my Ashdown Electric Blue head and Mag 210 Deep bottom. Ampeg sounded warm and full, but did not have the clean and detailed sound I was looking for. GK was clean and punchy, but not warm sounding with the basses I own.

I came across the Ashdown in a local pawn shop. I tried it out with a Modulus bass they had in the store. I came back the next day with my Peavey Millennium Plus and loved the sound. This thing sounds great with any bass I play through it.

My Ashdown LB rig is it for me. I also play Ampegs, but this is my first real all tube amp and I am loving the warmth, clarity, and grit I can get from this head and cab.

I've tried Peavey, it just sounds real plain to me, no real character or sound that made me go "DAMN!" like the Ashdown did. And does!

I like the sound of the Ashdown the 2 10's are clean and articulate like you said but I am having some issues with the buzzing. Ashdown tech support replied to a message and they are saying

"It sounds like the signal earthing may be abit suspect.. Make sure all your jack sockets and pots are screwed down
tight to the chassis.. Especially the two Input sockets."

since it is still under warranty and I am not a "authorized service center" I am not going to go too far with checking this out. Ill check the ring nuts on the amp but I am not going to pull the head and start screwing around...
