I have a silver cloth One10, and a black metal Big Baby II.

I got the BB2 first, used, here on TB, so I took what was available: black metal grill. But I prefer the silver cloth grill, so I got that when I ordered the One10 from Alex. My only dilemma (not really a dilemma) is-- if I get a Super Midget or a 2nd BB2, do I have them match the metal grill on my current BB2, or do I go for the look I like: silver cloth? Might be kind of a funny looking stack, one cloth and one metal. Still, I am inclined to get the kind I like-- if/when I use both BB2's (or BB2+SM) I will just have to live with the mismatch.

I now own a gen2 Compact with silver cloth grille, and the new BB2 with black metal grille. I am going to mix them in the rehearsal space, but on gigs with PA support I'm thinking of only bringing the BB2.

Black metal grill for me. A) because I like it and have the same on my TCE RS212s but also B) I feel more comfortable with the more solid protection in front of the drivers.

There IS much more protection with the metal grill for sure!

I have a BB2 and a SM, both in the silver cloth, like the retro look!

If I were road-doggin' it for thousands of miles in the back of an Econoline, or if I were playing rough hard-core shows where flying objects were a concern, I'd possibly do that too. These days most of my gigs are local-ish, and gigs where a retro vibe works well. Alex says the cloth grills give you more protection that you'd think: but IMO the metal will survive a knife attack whereas the cloth wont. Not many people try to kill my speaker cabs, so I'll forego that for the aesthetics. I think they both look good. IMO, the cab surface material will chip with abuse before the metal grill would be come into play as an abuse-deflector. With modest care, neither will happen.

The One10 especially, looks good in silver cloth grill-- especially when used alone. It's difficult to look "hard" with a single tiny shoebox-sized cab, so better to go with the classy cloth. Trying to look tough (w/ a metal grill) carrying a 15 pound bass cab is like trying to look gangsta driving a Mini Cooper.

JK... sort of. Metal grill is good-lookin' regardless. But better on a larger BF cab. :)
