I think the fact that you don't NEED the extra dB is a perfectly good reason to just leave it at 8ohms. As I said, most of us will never need more than what that cab can provide anyway. I think the Two10 has a 4 ohm option, but a person might rationally want to get those extra 3dB out of a small cab like a Two10. Even so, if I had a Two10 I'd want the 8 ohm version so I could use two, or one.

Certainly not an issue, just a curiosity, about the lack of a 4ohm version. Heck, I get a lot of mileage out of my One10 and BB2 (w/ one 12" driver). A Four10 would be pretty amazing, I think. I kind of wish there were a version of that with a tweeter that you could roll all the way off and have the freq's shift back to the drivers, like on a BB2, so you could have the best of both worlds (I feel like I have an SC too because I can roll the tweeter all the way off on the BB2) but maybe that's just because I am used to tweeters and love the BB2 tweeter. But, the One10 has awesome tone and no tweeter, so undoubtedly I'd be fine with more of that. And, I have lots of confidence in Alex's designs, so I am sure he's optimized the sound and performance of this new cab, and knows better than I what works best.

49 pounds is also half the weight of my old 4x10's.

So I've had the chance to test my newly purchased SM at a few full volume rehearsals and....so far I don't love it. Don't get me wrong, the combination of tone and output for a box of its size is incredible. However, I did find that the low end output was not quite satisfactory for my needs, even with bass EQ adjusted (and it took some time to find an EQ I really liked with the cab with my Streamliner head). I also have to push my amp harder than I did with my last cabinet (Markbass NY 122) to keep up with my (fairly loud) band - not excessively hard, just harder than before.

I have a few gigs coming up soon, so I will be testing the SM in live venue situations to continue to feel it out. Unless I fall in love with it, might be looking for a trade for a SC or BB2 (or maybe the Retro 210 would be more to my liking) if they would be more suitable one cab solutions for me. Sorry if it sounds like I'm raining on the BF parade - and I might end up keeping the SM and be very happy with it - but just thought I'd share my initial impressions.

All impressions and opinions welcome, we're here to share information, not to lead a parade. Thanks for sharing yours, balanced opinions are good. The SM being a smaller box, there is naturally a little bit less of the big lows, it's a trade-off for size/weight etc. I have a BB2 and honestly, there is SO much bass there that I have been thinking I could get by with a SM, and save space in the deal for many gigs. I mean, I almost have to roll off bass on the BB2-- so maybe you'd love that cab. And I could throw a SM on top of the BB2 for a stack, or use it as a stand-alone. I'd keep the BB2, though. My fantasy is that I'd have a closet full of BF cabs, and pull them out like a wardrobe to fit the occasion.

Is your SM metal or cloth grill? Not really in the market for another cab right at this moment, but a silver-cloth SM just might make me break down if one were for sale at a decent price. I know you wanna get to know the cab and how best to work with it before you decide what you want to do, of course. You might decide you love it... you wouldn't be the first person posting in this thread that wasn't quite sure at first, but came back with raves later, after settling in with it a bit. If you don't love it after a while, I am sure you can find a buyer here on TB without too much difficulty.
