Tight and punchy is how I'd position the Berg cabs -- at least it was for the AE210 verticals I gigged for a while. Upper-mid forward. Not the optimal voicing for acoustic bass for me. Haven't heard the SM so can't compare. But as I get more experience with my BB2 and Taylor AB-1 acoustic bass guitar, I'm gravitating toward two preferences: first, the BB2 sounds great but my Crazy8 stack sounds better. Both have a PA-like flatness to the tone but the BB2's lows are definitely fatter, more extended in feel. Using my Fdeck HPF Pre with both configurations improves both. I'm also preferring my solid state Puma 900 to the Reiner Studio 1200, which has a 3-tube preamp. Again, both amps sound really good with the BB2, but for acoustic bass, I'm preferring the Puma's voicing. For acoustic bass, I think you want a tighter, more focused low end as that instrument is not meant to soak through the entire mix like electric bass does (esp. a 5 string). Looking forward to hearing other SM owners who play acoustic bass on this one. Lots of shades of greatness, but some combinations of gear are right for one situation and not another.

I hear ya. I really want all of the action figures in the set.

In particular, a SM, and perhaps a 12 ohm Two10, to add to the set. For starters. So far I am not quite 50% of the way to saving up for a SM.

Another observation of One10 as of today: I pulled out my Spector with single coils and roundwounds from the case and played it through TH350/One10 => Awesome, full and round tone with plenty of highs. I realized that it was my other bass with dual coils caused me thinking of One10 being too dark sounding. Nothing wrong with this little cab, I'm very happy with this finding and glad that I've ordered another One10 and not the SM which I fortunately do not need now.

All this Barefaced gas we seem to be sharing and spreading to each other. The last thing I need is another speaker now as the room is full of them, but since receiving my Four 10 I have become obsessed with trying them all......sigh.... a familiar pattern which the wife unfortunately is starting to recognise.
On a slightly different note the comment was recently made in another thread that since Alex's super drivers have such a great excursion and remain clean you do not get to hear the typical warning sounds of speaker stress through farting out. Thus it is easier to burn out a voice coil as you realise too late that damage is being done. Can't really see it myself as the speakers have a huge power rating but food for thought. Made me pause for a second until my Barefaced gas reaffirmed itself and I started drooling over their website again drool:D

YES. the sole reason I'm tempted to get another 4ohm TWO10 :D

And I have to say... I expected my all-tube heads to compliment the TWO10 better than my D800 but so far I don't think that is the case! I think the TWO10 does a fantastic job of taming the crispy highs I hear in all my mesa amps (WA,prodigy,D800) but the D800 in particular just hits so hard - its hard not to like! Theres a bit "too much of a good thing' going on paired with my ashdown heads I think. However, I would highly recomend any Mesa head paired up with the retro series! It just does a beautiful job of rolling of the highs and lets the amp just pound...such a solid overall sound. :thumbsup:
