Official Barefaced Bass Cab Club

I think mine took about 5 weeks, but I'm sure it varies depending on what cab you are having built.

I'm not sure if they work on Mondays. It seems from my experience, anytime I tried to contact them later Sunday or on Monday, I wouldn't hear from them until Tuesday. Don't worry, Alex will get back to you. Communication was very excellent from my experience.

Thanks for your reply! Fingers crossed. It's been a week.

Man. I'm finding myself thinking about maybe unloading my 210. Since I've picked up my Dunwich ODB, I've found that box does similar things to the BB2 as just playing through the 210. For the amount of playing live that I do, the 210 and BB2 is a bit more than I need, though nice to have. Still not sure if I want to do anything. Thinking about swapping it for a SM. Maybe selling both that and my BB2 for a SM pair. Maybe just being content with what I've got :)
IIRC, you used to have a SM & SC, I've been meaning to inquire if you ever used that pairing much live with bass guitar & if so, what you thought about them as a pair?

I keep mind-boggling around about which Bf I'd like to try.
My current GAS list shows: Super Midget (pair) & Super Twin II; the thinking is with the right amp setup, I could have 5 different options for gigging, the baddest of which would be a 4x12 rig (when you really want to p!$$-off the guitarists).

If you run one SM with HF full up, one SM HF full down, it should sound pretty much like a not quite so bassy SM + SC rig.
Another option would be to point one of the SM at the drummer, the other straight out to audience.

Curious - is this about average wait time after putting down your deposit? 6 weeks from deposit to ship? I'm trying to buy one and nobody is getting back to me :(

Not normally this long, in my experience. It might have been 3-4 weeks for my One10. I got one cab (Four10) in 3 days because they had it built and on-hand.

They are, Alex indicates, a little short-handed right now, and they must have a lot of orders. Sometimes it takes a few days to get a reply to email. If I were you, I'd check to make sure they acknowledge your order and deposit, just to be sure there was no screw-up in the digital process and that they have it in their queue, and then settle in and wait patiently. ;). It's tough for the instant-gratification types, but well worth it in the end.

One last thought, if you haven't already, try [email protected] rather than the "contact us" link on the Barefaced website, if you messaged them that way. I once sent a message to the website contact form that was not received by them, but all my emails to [email protected] have been received.

If you read back a few (?) pages Alex said that they were short on personnel. One of those people was the "admin" person who handled emails and other office type things. I think he said that would be temporary. Then again, I could be totally wrong and I am a fool when I dance.

I heard from Alex the other day, after a delay - he's been short-staffed, a little behind, but all is well.

Thanks so much for chiming in guys. I put my deposit down on 8/30. I never received anything other than a Paypal confirmation, so I emailed [email protected] on 9/6. Alex wrote back same-day confirming the order and asking a couple of questions. He did also mention that they were short-staffed. I wrote back same-day with answers to Alex's questions and 2 questions of my own. Unfortunately, I never got a reply, so I followed up again today, 9/12.

I really want the cab and understand there is a wait involved, but with a full week between correspondence, I'm feeling a little uneasy. The excitement also doesn't help the anticipation :)

I had the SC & SM at the same time. It was a nice pairing. I found myself able to get by in my jams with just the SC, so that is generally what I brought, and didn't try the pairing more than once or twice. Being crippled means not carrying more than the minimum, even if it sounds pretty nice. Couldn't tell you much more than that it works, and they sound quite complimentary.

Don't feel uneasy friend! They eventually get a reply back, but based on my recent purchase and delivery experience I can attest to it being worth the wait, and the service from the company is really great. I would recommend waiting up until the wee hours of the morning (US time) and then giving them a call, if you need a quicker follow-up. Plus, it was really fun talking to those guys. You can even hear wood working going on in the background while on the phone!

I feel compelled to comment on the customer service I've received lately overall in the music industry. The Guitar Center in Concord, California, has just been top-notch, excellent in their service and policies. Then, there was my visit to Mesa Boogie and getting their help and support. And there was my call to Fender guitars, really helpful and responsive as well. And then there's Barefaced. Even Red Witch answered my silly email question (took them a week, but it's okay for boutique sort of manufacturers, they don't have dozens of support staff working for them). In fact, so far, maybe I'm just lucky, or maybe it's the companies I chose to purchase gear from, but in the music industry the customer service seems to stand out and above the run of the mill treatment you get for other products in our lives.

A+ to Alex and his company.

We're officially open Mon-Fri 0900-1700 UK time (that's GMT or BST depending on the time of year. Emails get answered at all sorts of times depending on what else is going on in my life (I have a family too!) If I've taken a break from Barefaced things over the weekend then there's usually a lot to deal with on Monday, hence replies tend to be slower.

We're now back up to full staffing numbers but two of them have been with us less than a week so there's a fair bit of training to do! I'll be very glad to have someone to once again take over the email stuff that doesn't require my knowledge or technical expertise but right now most of the communication is down to me and I'm spread rather thin...

Although it's very nice to chat to potential customers, I'm not very good at being efficient on the phone so if everyone starts calling I will never get any work done, and will just spend all day talking bass, music and any of my other specialist subjects (if you're into doing stupid things down steep slippery hills on two wheels, or cars, or pretty much anything engineering related, you might as well just write off half a day for a chat... ;) ) So for the sake of my productivity, please email and if you don't hear back within a reasonable period of time (I'll let you decide what's reasonable!) email again. :)

LOL I was actually wondering if you'd cringe at my phone call suggestion!

So guys what do you think is the best one 12" cab solution? BB2? I'm thinking to add some flat response cab to my stable. One10 stack is great but I also need some more modern sounding rig. I want it to be compact but loud, you know ;)

I don't have an SC, and my SM has not yet arrived, so as far as comparisons, I am not fully qualified. I can tell you that the BB2 is a GREAT cabinet, and if I were to have a single 12", that would be it. It's 29 pounds, so very light. The box itself is small but not super-duper tiny, at least compared to SM and SC. However, that extra bit of box size adds some really nice depth to low end. I say it so often it seems cliche by now, but it sounds kind of like you have PA support for the bass/lows in the room when you use a BB2, which makes for a very full lush sound. One 12" cab to rule them all-- BB2 IMO; unless you really just need a smaller box for space reasons.A lot of people like the SM because it is still SUPER light and small (23 pounds, 17"x16"x11") and still has enough wallop down low to sound great (just not as much down low as a BB2). Since you already have 2xOne10 for your super-duper small-light rig, I might say, BB2 would be a great choice (and it isn't big, at 29 pounds).

I don't recall seeing this in the thread, although its always possible that I may have missed it. Has anyone compared the 410 to the Super Twin?

Interesting question, I don't think I've seen that directly addressed. I have a Four10, but I don't have a ST so again, no direct comparison from me. Both would be super awesome and handle anything you could throw at it. They are very different cabs so mostly I think it would depend on what you like tone-wise. The diff between the 10's and 12's from Barefaced has been thoroughly discussed so I won't re-hash that: nicely colored vs. thick and transparent.

Although speaker surface area isn't everything, the Four10 has 50% more speaker surface than a 2x12 such as ST or BT2. They both have similar SPL's. The Four10 is 49 pounds, the ST is 37-40, so approximately 10 pounds lighter. BT2 has caster wheels that can make moving it perhaps a little easier than the Four10, for which I need a small dolly/hand truck or to just carry it (it has 2 nice inset handles). I am not sure if the ST has those caster wheels too, or not.

And to both posters I'd say, I love both the BB2 and the Four10. They are different, but both different/good. ST is smaller/lighter than BT2 but I am guessing that, like BB2, the BT2 might get a little more into the lows than the ST since BT2 is a bigger box than ST. But, there's no way the ST is lacking in lows.

In a perfect world I'd be able to have old school 410 tone in the ST box with ST. power handling...

ST power handling is only slightly higher: 1200W max vs 1000W max. Unlike a traditional 4x10, I really don't think you'd lack power and volume with a Four10; it really is comparable to almost 2 4x10 cabs in what it can do, and certainly does what a 6x10 can do from any mainstream manufacturer, and more.

Neither here nor there since it doesn't exist, but someone suggested that it would be kinda cool if they had a a taller, narrower Four10, where the speakers are staggered. It'd still weigh 49 pounds though-- 1/2 what my old 4x10 weighed, so still pretty damn good. Four10 has ferrous magnets, not neo, so for the cabs to be as light as they are with 10's in them is pretty amazing. For 10's, I have long thought that ferrous ones sound better than neo, for what they're supposed to do, though I couldn't tell you why. The 12's are neo and I think neo works a lot better with 12's for some reason.

But yeah, these BF models all have something really good to offer, which is why I am about to get my 4th BF cab. "All-in-one" products of any kind tend to lack the excellence in individual aspects that dedicated products do; they tend to be "jack of all trades, master of none". So, since with BF I am going for the best, not having one cab try to be everything is fine with me.

Depends on how you define best and how loud you need to be.

If size is critical, the BB2 is the biggest of the bunch. However it's got the best full range response and low end extension because of the driver and box volume. If you don't need huge volume and lows but still want that top end, then SM, particularly if small size is critical. If the highs over 4K aren't your zingy thing, then I'd say the SC is. It's still got plenty of highs. The footprint is smaller and it is an easier carry. It's nearly as big in the lows as the BB2 and noticeably more than the SM. I found the SM not quite up to the task of producing enough volume & lows with my usual loud jam buddies, however the SC with the same amp gets the job done thanks to the extra low end sensitivity of the bigger box. I also didn't find the lack of a tweeter to be an issue for our noisy jams. I'd say the SC is top dog, unless you need that high end. It's the sweet spot in size and output. If money and size aren't an issue, then the BB2 is still the king.

I'd still really like to have tried a 2 SM stack. My gut says that rig is gonna kill.

...also, since you've got a 110, the SM/110 stack is pretty darn nice.

Monster, many thanks for details. The size is quite critical and the tweeter is not so probably SC is the best choice. Although I'm really curious how One10 will couple with SM cause SM will add some highs and lows to compliment mid-range One10.
