Very cool! Very nice bass but overpriced IMO. It wasn't magical enough for the pricetag. lol

I don't even understand them because they both have different pickups than Victor's PJs

Not directly but I was using PH 115 and 212 cabs a few years before I switched to the Barefaced cabs. I also changed amps and gigs so I’m not much help for apples to apples A/B comparisons. I am quite happy with where I ended up, not that I was terribly unhappy with where I started.

Looking forward to introducing my new friend Mr. TT800 to my soon to be new friend Mr. BB3 in February (I hope!). Had a maiden voyage with the TT last night. Between the deep switch, HPF and the bass knob(s) there's a ton of low-end options here. Great amp so far

Continuing my “research” on contemporary amps, I’m interested in getting something very different than my Quilter to pair with my SuperTwin. I’m drawn to the full, open sounds of GK and the new Trace TE-1200. I have no doubt that the Mesa subways are amazing but I’ve yet to hear anything that really grabbed me. And the closest Mesa dealer is hours away.

Any SuperTwin players care to weigh in on GK and/or Trace? I’m partial to Tech21 drive sounds and will probably run a pedal in front for OD.

I made the mistake of purchasing a Mesa Subway 2X15. It’s a fantastic cab, but for my personal needs I find it to be a little too heavy. More so in its shape, which makes lifting it an awkward task. I originally wanted to go Barefaced, but thought I would take a chance on the Mesa 2X15.
Anyhow, I need to figure out a solution.
I’ve got it narrowed down to the following options:

1 - Super Twin
2 - Super Compact (X2)
3 - Three10
4 - Two10s (X2)

Intended use would be P bass/Jazz bass w/ flats, tone/treble rolled off.
Mesa D-800+ (for now)
Genres: Early Ska, Early Reggae, Soul, Latin, etc.

if anyone has experience with these cabs & the corresponding genres, I would greatly appreciate any input.

Super Twin it is for New Years Eve! I usually bring my DB112 but that weighs more and the ST is on wheels. Plus it killllls!

The 2X15 actually has wheels, but I’m probably in the minority where it’s still too heavy. I have a gravel driveway, so I don’t want to roll it on that surface to get to the car. Plus, I have a few stairs before reaching my front door.
For me, the shape of the cab makes for an awkward lift. Maybe it’s just me, & the several obstacles my home has.
For someone else, it may be the dream cab. Having experienced it in real life, with my specific conditions, I’m realizing I’d like something lighter and/or less awkwardly shaped for lifting.
I only got the Subway cab because it was in stock online, whereas I had to wait for the Barefaced cab. My lack of patience backfired, unfortunately.
But this is the best way to learn sometimes, I suppose.
Both companies make great cabs, with reviews to back them up. But everyone is different, and for me, I’m thinking a Barefaced cab will be more ideal.

it’s wonderful. I have rounds on it and it’s great. But, flats are pretty magical on it. I almost got a second one to have one set on each. Still in the cards.

I loved the sound and form factor of the Bag End 2x10 I'd been playing through for twenty years but needed a break from the weight. The Barefaced website is pretty convincing and the Super Compact dimensions are nearly identical. The difference in weight between the two is 31lbs! Also, the location of the handle on the SC is perfect and a big improvement over the BE.

On the other hand two cabs don't sound remotely the same. The Bag End has a sweet, upper middy, but still full range timbre. The SC is more of a hifi sound and I am constantly amazed at the amount of low end it can output. At the same time and for my taste there is plenty of high end. Both get a great sound with either the electric or double bass but there is an accuracy with the BF, as if it is the actual sound of the instrument being amplified. They both totally handle a fiver. I'm completely happy with the Barefaced Super Compact and don't intend to buy another cab.

The Bag End has left the building.

1. This thread. I didn't know Barefaced before reading this thread, and I had never seen before a brand that turn their customers into sales reps like this, so I had to try.
2. Lightweight AND amazing sound. I would never have bought a cab if it was light but with an average sound, or great sound but heavy.
3. The business model. I prefer to give my money for hours of local craftmenship rather than industrial production in Asia.

I had a crippling injury that left me looking for the lightest cabs I could find. At one point I decided it was worth it to gamble on a cab and that was how I got started.

When I know (or strongly suspect) I'll be spending a thousand dollars or more for something, I like to mull it over for a long time first. Like a year or two, if that's feasible. I'll shop, compare different models, read reviews -- especially first hand reviews from people who have bought the product, etc. In this case, I was considering a speaker cab to potentially replace my Phil Jones C8, and I was leaning toward Mesa cabs. But I kept reading comments here from Barefaced cab owners, and it eventually prompted me to check out Barefaced's website. That led me down the rabbit hole of Barefaced YouTube channel -- speaker comparison videos, and videos explaining the engineering & construction of the cabs, the speakers, etc. I eventually emailed Alex, and we corresponded for a while.

Following this process, I get a pretty good feel for things, and I trust my intuition. My intuition has a pretty good hit rate, about 90% or so. It occasionally lets me down, but not very often. Anyway, I ordered a Big Baby III, and I wasn't disappointed. My friend and long time guitar builder Lynn Ellsworth says my bass sound with my Barefaced cab is the best bass sound he's ever heard. He can hear everything the bass is doing from anywhere in the room. (I play in small clubs where the bass usually doesn't have any PA support, so my bass rig supplies the bass sound for the whole room.) It was expensive, but the quality is worth paying for.
