Super 3rd just arrived and tried it out at practice last night. Sounds good. 3 gigs coming up this week, so we'll see how it goes. I expect the sound guy to tell me to turn down.

Hi Barefaced people.

I'm testing / researching any cabinets that could be considered FRFR-ish. For instance, I tested one of the new Ampeg Venture cabs yesterday with my modeler, and it actually sounded pretty great. Thats not usually the case with "bass" cabinets not known for FRFR-ishness.

There's a Supertwin near me for sale, dont' know yet if it is the T with tweeter variant, if those here would consider it to be FRFR-ish? It's not listed on the BF website as being in that category.

Super Twin without tweeter starts rolling off at 4K. Not FRFR-ish.

The Big Baby 3 or the Big Twin 3 would probably be the Barefaced cabs you might be interested in. Some folks use the BB3 for PA.

Has anyone ever had a BB3 and a ST? I'm curious to hear what you find as the difference between the two.

I have a BB3 and SMT, and honestly I'm just not in love with the SMT. It mostly only gets used to get more output paired with my BB3, and I find it seems to choke much sooner than the BB3. I end up taking the BB3 to practices for the deeper low end. I've tried some high pass filters and I have to roll it off so much for the SMT that I start to notice less depth from the BB3.

I'm considering getting a ST for gigs, and keeping the BB3 to use for practices and such. Any thoughts? Should I just sell the SMT and run dual BB3s?

i can't really answer your question but i have a Super Twin and it puts out plenty of low end, more than i usually ever need in the places i play.. but then again, i also have a Super Mini and i kinda like it's voicing more because it rolls off the boomy bass! at least for rehearsals. the Twin mostly gets the live gigs. So the ST certainly can deliver low end but i reckon that if you really like the bass that goes boom, you'd want another BB or a big twin. i haven't tried either, but i think they're voiced deeper than the ST.
but lemme know if you're selling a SM T with silver cloth.

I run 3 combinations of BF cabs, an SC, an SM/SC and SM/BB2.

I also don't like the SM on its own, doesn't go low enough for me, but it sounds pretty good paired with the other cabs.

If I was in your position, I'd get another BB3.

As the outlier here, I suggest you consider getting a Super Twin for gigs. It's got two 12 inch drivers in one box and weighs just 40 pounds. MUCH easier to transport than two BB3s. You'll get plenty of volume and girth. I used to gig a BB2 and also had a Super Midget. I agree the SM has less bass ummph than a BB3. You'll get way more with a ST. And if you ever want to combine the ST with the BB3 or the SM, go for it. But again, how loud do you need to be on the stage, esp. with a PA system carrying the load?

The sm likes a bit more power to get super low but can be close to a bb2 with slight bass boost and my 1200 watt Bergantino hp. I actually like that the bottom end is tighter than my bb2.

Anyone used an Aguilar TH500 with their 12XN cabs? Any issues with needing more power with 2 x 12XN?

Decided to finally go to Aguilar. Was contemplating TH500 vs TH700, but the 700 is on back order at Sweetwater. I'm debating if I should wait the >1 month for it or just get the 500. Any input from people who have used either of them with 12XNs would be appreciated!

For background: I'm coming from a Trickfish Bullhead 1k, which is 1000 Watts at 4 or 8ohm. I have never ran a gig with the volume really past half!

I've never used a TH500 or TH700, but the difference between a 500W and a 700W amp is only 1 decibel, all other things being equal.

Have Alex/Barefaced ever indicated they might create a combo bass amp?

I already have a Barefaced Super Compact T, which I'm very happy with. I'm driving it with a Bergantino Forte D.

The one piece of gear that would most efficiently build out my gigging capability would be a Barefaced combo amp with an external speaker out. It'd be ideal for "grab and go" coffee shop gigs, and then I could simply add my existing Super Compact T as an extra external speaker when I need the extra volume for club gigs.

I'm about to buy an alternative combo amp with an external speaker out, which I will also use to drive my Super Compact T. I'm crossing my fingers that mixing and matching like this will end up with a decent sound.

But if Barefaced were on the cusp of releasing a combo amp, I'd hold off and buy that instead.
