"Official" Carvin Club - Part 2

I recently acquired this 88 LB70 from the classifieds. There were some issues that concerned me initially (the upper horn is really short and shifts the balance of the bass further to the left than I'm used to), but after playing a while, decided it's not a big deal. Put some new strings on it (Di'Addario Tape Wounds) and it really came to life. I'm not a big fretless player, but this one is awesome. Played it all day Sunday at da church and thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is my 1st Carvin and currently my only non-G&L. Both basses that are wonderfully crafted US instruments and undervalued in the used market. Not so great if you're selling, but awesome if you're buying (like me).

I really wish I could get the radiused j99 soap bars like come on the Bromberg but don't think it's possible on the B40.

Its Interesting to me when I first saw the sb bass and headstock I HATED the looks of both. Now I think the sb headstock and bass look so great. Same thing with the Bromberg bass... Reminded me of a Danelectro longhorn bass and was shocked at the look of it. Now I am quite diggin' it. The headstock with need to grow on me some more though.

I was on the fence about the look, kinda wishy washy about all the options too. Worked with Flock at SD Carvin and basically trusted him to take care of me. Love my Carvin.

Definitely a good thing for the clear coat finish. I love the the J99's a lot they really have some nice sound. The other thing I love is the 1.5" neck width, but it feels so much better than a jazz because it's not as round.

Got my Carvin LB70P built in 2004. Can I join/number please? Let me know if you need photographic evidence. My review's under the username carvincustomer2004 over at HC in case anyone wants a detailed review.

This household has a DC400M, 3 Cobalts, a Bolt kit, my bass, some Carvin amps, and several build lists that have done nothing for the bad case of GAS.

Uh, yeah, we dig Carvin.

Is anyone out the in Carvin Land running anything with dual humbuckers, specifically the HB5/w like this?

Are they solid pickups, or something that you would replace?

I'm getting ready to order a 5 string bass (or 2 :hiding:) from Carvin, and was thinking of getting a double HB set-up w/SB preamp in one of them. I'd get it wired with all the taps and switches, and it would be set up mostly for a rock (not metal) bass, with either Alder or Swamp Ash.

I currently play a G&L 2500 in church and am looking in getting a Carvin bass. I played the LB75 and really like the bell tones with their j pickups. Don't know if I should get a SB5001 or the LB75 at the moment. :smug:

2 different beasts, 2 different feels. The LB75 is neck-through, with what feels to me like a little fatter neck and 17.5mm spacing. The SB5001 is a bolt on w/19mm spacing and has a slimmer neck. Of course, you can order either how you want it, to a point.

Both are excellent!:bassist:
