I posted this bass here before but I'm in the middle of my third gig of the weekend and I used this bass for all three and it sounds amazing..I'm pretty sure my next Carvin will use J99 pickups and SB preamp in an Icon body.

I'm completely happy with my XB75 fretted bass, but now I am considering a fretless. Has anyone played both an AC series fretless and a Rob Allen fretless? I've heard a lot about the Allens but little about the AC fretless.

The ac40 above is a fretless,with optional fretlines and dot markers,which do help me,as i am still pretty new to playing fretless. I like that it is a standard 34" scale,not sure if the RA's are. I have checked out a turner REN,as well as a Godin and washburn slim line semi acoustics,i think the impressive thing about the ac40 is the mahogoney neck-through coupled to a semi hollow body. It sounds very big and full amplified,much like an URB,if that is what you're looking for. (Labella tapewounds probably have a lot to do with that,too) i have not actually had the chance to check out a RA.

Agree with what woodyng said. I have an AC40F, and I just love it. Everyone I show it to loves it as well. Sounds great, plays easy, big fan here.

I also can not compare it to an Allen because I've never played one.

I can tell you, however, that used ones show up here on TB for between $500-$700. Keep your eyes peeled. In fact, I think there's an AC50F that I saw yesterday?

Oh yeah,price was the other thing. Its hard to believe one of these brand new is under $1k,but i picked mine up for well under half that price. I am one happy fella!
