In other news I took the carcosa off my board. That lasted like 2 days. See, I got the DG alpha/omega. Holy crap is that the bees knees as far as bass dirt is concerned. It's pretty amazing. And I felt like I could cut down on my dirt section a little. So the carcosa came off. But honestly, I can't not recognize what the carcosa does in a live band mix. It totally maims and pillages. I'm actually thinking Of swapping out the muff I'm using for it and using the carcosa in that role. It does a convincing muff to my ear and it cuts better than any muff I've had or tired. So I think it may be my "muff" fuzz for a bit.

I had a similar reaction to the Carcosa as the Boneshaker, however a little less intense. It seemed to overlap with lots of my pedals, but didn't sound as good as them. For my tones, if the Boneshaker is 95% there, the Carcosa was 80% or so. Still though, it has plenty of tones I don't have, so I'm not knocking it at all. It's just that if I wanted those tones I'd have them. But I don't, so the Carcosa didn't last long for me. We're also talking about being beaten by boutique pedals that are often over a hundred dollars more, if not even more expensive.

In truth, DOD has been killing it lately. The Gunslinger is also phenomenal (and has been gifted to my guitarist where it shines), the Looking Glass seems great (no experience - yet), and the reissues have all been spot on from what I hear.

Oh man are they ever killin it! I see Digitech and DOD under the same umbrella. So to see all the new stuff not only DOD is doing (those new exp and vol pedals look awesome!) but to also see all the stuff digitech is doing what with the Freqout (I REALLY want that pedal too, man does that look awesome, the cab driver is one I'd love to have for live shows too. So many cool things to be done with that one) and how they pretty much reinvented the Whammy with the Ricochet, I still want to try one of those. They just keep on pumpin em out! @DigiTechRep is the man!

For me, the carcosa just shines. I’ve got other pedals that do what it does (maybe not quite as broad of a dirt spectrum. Because the carcosa can do a ton), but for what I’d use the Carcosa for it does it better. I actually really like it as an OD but I have the ODB which is like my all-time fav OD now. My fuzz game has never been that strong but that’s simply because I used OD and dist more with my band than I ever used fuzz. It wasn’t until the last year or two I started trying to incorporate more fuzz tones into our sound. And I’ve really focused on finding THE muff. I had success with a few but overall, I’m not so sure a muff is the type of fuzz best suited for our band. But I’ll say this, the first time I stomped the Carcosa on at practice, it blew me back. I couldn’t believe how loud and cutting it got. And it can do so much. That is the main reason why its staying on, because it works so well with my band. Just like all my other dirt pedals. It just works. And having that built in gate really helps me because high gain dirt likes to feedback with my setup at high volumes. That gate prevents that. And it makes for a really screaming a$$ fuzz tone. So in short, it just works with my band.

The muff I have now is a custom green Russian built by Dennis Pleckham of Bongripper and I really like it. A lot. And it may stay right where it is. Because it can cut. And get super loud and massively beefy. I just don’t know which one I’d use more for fuzz parts, the carcosa or the muff…..I keep wanting to cut my dirt section in half. But then I go to do it and I’m like, “why?”. I don’t NEED to do this. I’m not traveling, I don’t NEED to shrink my setup down. So why not enjoy it while I can?!?!

Tried the Boneshaker with my bass today. Could just about nail my Pharaoh settings within minutes. Incredibly solid dirt pedal. Pretty much identical to my guitar assessment.

In short - great, versatile, pedal. Can get 95% of the way to my favorite bass dirt this far, but not quite. Certainly a steal for what you get in the box. It kills many boutique dirts, and would likely have saved me money if I had bought one earlier, as I could definitely see this as having ended some of my dirt search earlier.

The depth knob still seems unresponsive. Will try and mod it this weekend if possible.

I'm looking for a comp to use before my Meatbox. I have split my signal and I'm running the Meatbox cranked into a DI to FOH, but I'm thinking putting some compression before it wouldn't hurt. Anyone had any luck with the 280 reissue, to keep it in the dod family. Also I have a boss cs-3 I can pick up locally for a decent price. Any other suggestions.

Never had a CS-3, so I can't compare. I paid $40 or so for all 3 of my Milk Boxes, so I'd wait for a deal, but they do seem to be creeping up price-wise. The graphics are just graphics - they have no meaning besides having control names that make sense.

I have had the MXR Bass Compressor in the past, and I just find the Milk Box to be a simple comp that sounds good and lets me dial in some highs if needed. The MXR was a fine Compressor too, and I can't knock it, but I found I preferred the ability to add back in highs. The MXR was also a bit sterile, and I wanted slight tone coloration (again, highs). All the features I wanted were on the Milk Box at a cheap price and a brand I love. No brainer here.

Of course, there are much fancier, more expensive, "better" compressors, but I like the Milk Box! As with any gear, whatever suits your purposes is the best! Good luck!

Thanks for the info, I'll be looking out for on on the cheap. It may do a little more than I really need though, really just looking for something to feed the Meatbox a good steady signal.

Speaking of DIs I just ordered one of these. The guy has three more on reverb.

IIRC mine is older than that, what little paint remains is the same color as the box and beat to heck and back. It is semi permanently installed in one of my old road racks, scrounged somewhere sometime in my travels or maybe trevails.

I'm surprised that it distorts my amp so well. My FX10 seems cleaner. Still, I have barely played my 410, and it's different amps, etc. Either way, I dig them both so far.
