So, yesterday’s MF Deal Of the Day as the current 440 Envelope Filter. I was too slow and missed the stock. Anyone pick one up? Always wanted to try one. Dibs on any flips!
Anybody know where to get replacement battery doors? Used to be sold here and there online, but they seem to be dried up.
What is the skinny on the 440 Reissue? I really liked my FX25, but it killed my amp every time I got it to volume. Just literally shut it down. I really love filters ( and DOD!) and have wondered about the 440. For reference, my favorite filters this far are my FX25Bs (modded for no loss of volume), MXR BEF, and 3Leaf Proton. How does the 440 compare, and possibly more importantly, will it kill my amp at volume?
I had high hopes for the 440 because I tried the mojohand 443, which is supposedly based on the vintage 440, and I really liked it. I thought the reissue 440 was gonna be the 443 but with a downsweep option. With the 440 I struggled to get it to trigger, and even when it did it was very weak (I feel like I couldn't get enough resonance) and I couldn't get it to sit in the frequency range I liked. I returned it and got the mojohand. I wish it had a downsweep but otherwise I couldn't be happier. I've basically given up on owning a small form filter that works with my bass that does both up and down sweep that costs less than $200. The mojohand cost me $80, for context.

Got myself a Rubberneck... this is a very cool pedal! Not easy to get an undistorted delay with bass though, even with gain all the way down to zero. Other than that this is the most fun delay I have owned!

I love the old pedals. Carcosa and Boneshaker both leave something to be desired. Or probably it's on the user side of things, I just don't have the patience to tweak knobs or I don't know what I want.
Milk Box is awesome. I paired it with Southampton Fifth Gear (gain at 10.30) and got pretty awesome grit out of them.

yeah i bought the boneshaker on a whim and there are some things i like about it and a bunch that i do not like about it. In almost every case, my muff does a similar thing, but better. Maybe this thing is more versatile, but whatever. It was an impulse buy because it was like 110 dollars off. Gunna keep it around for a while and probably make money back on it several years from now after it goes out of print.

I have to agree on the newer offerings. I have tried both Boneshaker and Carcosa more than once, and they just didn’t do it. But I have literally 30 or so of the older FX Series (12 or so of which have at least one duplicate in that count). I have 2 identical “cheap” DOD boards for guitar, solely because they’re affordable and I love their tones.
Milk Box is my go to Compressor. I have 4! And have thought of getting more... The Bi-FET Boost is a fantastic utility pedal, and it is great in any of its incarnations. I have recently come to love the Vibrothang, and hope to snatch another.
My DOD wishlist (when I find them for the right price) includes:

Finally, anybody have a lead on replacement battery doors? There used to be a guy on eBay, but they seem to be gone. I found a guy that sold them custom 3D printed, but they were a bit pricey. I’d happily buy a few for my inevitable pedal that needs one.
DOD has been infiltrating my board, mostly due to the blowout sales. I have the gonkulator, Boneshaker and gunslinger.
The Boneshaker makes for a good eq pedal. I run it into my GR Reissue muff and get a really tight distortion: think G.C Green
The trick with the Boneshaker is to dial in the frequency, then turn the gain knob on that frequency until it distorts. Then dial in the distortion and level knob to taste. Distort the frequencies first. It’s a good starting point with the pedal for sure.
The Gunslinger arrived last week and sounds less compressed than what I already have on my board so I put it on it. I hope to run it at 18 volts one day.
I also have an old FX25 too. Good stuff.

Classic fuzz is fantastic! It’s one of my favorite fuzzes, behind some serious boutique ones. The Deep Freeze is also great, but I don’t use chorus all that often. I much preferred it to my old Boss Bass Chorus.

I love it on guitar and bass. I have 3 of them! One for my second bass rig, and two for my cheap DOD guitar rigs. Seriously, for the $40 (or less if you’re patient) or so these go for, they’re the best fuzz I’ve ever played.
With that said, it’s more of a thick fuzz that can get raspy at certain settings. I like thick and smooth, muff-type sounds. If you want extreme gated fuzz stuff, look elsewhere.
