that's a tough question, the grunge has more gain but the bass overdrive does lighter gain better...

I run them both together , but standalone I prefer the bass overdrive, the grunge can get in rat territory easily though...

edit: so yeah, id pick the bass overdrive, it has more brightness than the grunge(which is darker)

Yeah I want both of them.. Grunge getting into rat territory sounds cool and I want the bass overdrive.

Well, the fx91 can be found for cheap on eBay now and then, I've seen the fx92 go as high as $150, I really prefer the 91 overall, it doesn't get crazy but it sounds sooooo ****en good!!

and yeah, the 92 can go almost fuzz if you roll back the "zip" knob and turn up the "stupid"!! it can also get harsh like a rat can, it is tricky getting good straight overdrive though, its like barely then super heavy...
I actually use a sample setting called "meaty treat" out of the manual, its super clanky , pretty clean though, I set the grunge real mellow with blend and "stupid" knob pretty low, it gets me a nice cranked amp vibe.

neither loose any low end, the grunge has a separate stereo out for biamping, but it is real noisy(at least mine) on the clean sound...

really underrated pedals, Johnk is the only person I've seen review the bass overdrive and the grunge actually was released before the boss bass overdrive!!

that grunge was my 1st pedal, bought brand new about 1995....

edit: I also have the later DOD death metal, that thing is a monster, great for bass;)

Oh yeah, another thing about the grunge, the manual for it has sample settings for prong, exit 13 and the melvins IIRC, the death metal has setting for carcass, napalm death (guitar and bass) and another death metal band...not sure if these guys actually used either, but they both sound close

I have an FX53-Classic Tube.

does that retain the low end good??

Bass... I was just on EBay, people are selling the "deep freeze" chorus for $150-200 range!!! I hope people realize the ice box is identical sounding;)

I almost pulled the trigger on a bass stereo flanger but since i have a good chorus i was thinking maybe a digital delay instead..any thoughts, I've never owned a delay...i know what they do but never used one where i had the same flanger before... Any opinions???

The cool thing about the fx91 is that th e gain isn't harsh where the 92 can be if the "zip"(tone) is up high, it really cuts through in a pleasing way, very underrated pedal and IMO much better than the boss odb3...i also didn't buy anything off eBay, I'm trying to exercise self discipline to save for a good cab

In with my FIRST DOD pedal!!!

Handwired Analogman modded 250 with a three way clipping switch for Silicon / none / germanium and the Mojo 741 chip. So the Silicon mode is a Grey box clone and the germanium mode is a MXR script Distortion+ clone. The middle position is basically MicroAmp'ish - and very cool. Almost a little Barbershop'ish.

Psyched! Can I have a number?

I agree about the micro amp being a little Barbershopish. Very similar on the VFE Distortion 3 I have.
