Just got a brand new SR5 last month, black with maple neck/board. Was looking to buy one for a loooong time and finally did it. I have an '83 MusicMan Stingray and a 2007 one, both 4 strings and I love them both. And now I finally have a SR5 with ALNICO pickups!!!

Was that sarcasm?

I thought all Brits had a good sense of humor.

Actually, It appears that the Sterling 5 hasn't taken off (in sales) quite as well as the factory had hoped. But given some time, i'm sure that will change.

They only started to ship at the beginning of June. You'll just have to contact your dealer to see what's on order. If none of the stores have ordered any, you'll have a 5 mth wait after they do.

Can I join? I've got one of the very first EBMM's- a 1986 in trans-teal with a clear pickguard. It's got a bullet trussrod, 2-band EQ, and a skunk stripe on the somewhat-flamey maple neck. It's basically identical to an original Music Man, except for the tiny "Ernie Ball" designation over the headstock label. It even says "Music Man StingRayBass". Here's my lady and I with it at a photo-shoot last year:

That is a WICKED photo man, might get something along them lines with my missus!

Here's my first MM ever!
It took 30 some years, but I got one now. :)
A 1994 Sterling I got in a trade for another local TB'er this weekend.
Plays & sounds fantastic and looks amazing!
It has the most insane birdseye maple neck & fingerboard I've seen.
I'm real happy with it as it sits right now, but may replace the pickup at some point.
Still need to do some research on that and/or if there are any suggestions I'm all ears.

Say. I know that bass! (btw, it's Honeyburst, not Sunset as in your profile)

This bass is sick as all F$$K!!! What an amazing color and the fantastic birdseye!! It is what wet bass dreams are made of

Why on earth would you want to do that??? Is there something wrong with it?

Nothing wrong with it, I'm a gear junkie that likes to get the best sound possible out of what ever it is I play through.

It'll stay as it is until I get a feel for what this puppy is all about.

Should do just fine like it is, but it's good to know what options are available & what to look for.

The best sound possible is only possible with the original MM pickup :)

AWESOME STERLING! Very nice flame on the neck. As far as "other pickups" there is a reason so many other companies have MM style pickups on their basses. the reason isnt anything to do with Bartolini, or Nordstrand. Its just the raw tone of a musicman!

ps weird, did all the older sterlings come with a battery cover like that? Never seen that before.

hey MR matt, I have your bass's little sister, a 1996 stingray4 in original sunburst with maple (SUNbst is sunburst in fact before it was named honeyburst and got a little darker)
