hey MR matt, I have your bass's little sister, a 1996 stingray4 in original sunburst with maple (SUNbst is sunburst in fact before it was named honeyburst and got a little darker)

greaaat baassess

Awesome! Love to see her, post some pics of her there’s never enough bass porn. ;)

I'm gettin' jealous of my old bass!

Matt: if you switch out that pup, I get the bass back! And regarding the DD, after Pleking it, it plays like a dream. Sounds great, looks great, will miss the Sterling. Just let me know if/when you're looking to move it. ;)

Oh yeah. You want my member #? #94?

Gwon, no worries, after I put a fresh set on & pumped it thru the big rig (and little) I see no reason to swap the pup.
If it goes up on the block, you’ll be the first to know! Don't hold your breath tho :D
Glad Mike was able to help you out, that’s an awesome machine, very precise.

Yeah, #94 would be perfect! If’n that’s cool with the club organizer, Figjam?

Here's my first MM ever!
It took 30 some years, but I got one now. :)
A 1994 Sterling I got in a trade for another local TB'er this weekend.
Plays & sounds fantastic and looks amazing!
It has the most insane birdseye maple neck & fingerboard I've seen.
I'm real happy with it as it sits right now, but may replace the pickup at some point.
Still need to do some research on that and/or if there are any suggestions I'm all ears.

very nice! it's got birdseye, the recessed backing plate and the mutes. that's the sort of sterling i'd be interested in.

Just to let you guys know, I played yesterday with my alnico SR5, it kills. :)
Yeah there's definitely a difference to the ceramic. To be honest, if anything ever happened to my Ceramic SR5, I'd probably replace it with a Sterling 5. After all these years, I'm so familiar with the sound of the ceramic I don't want to change.

....and I'd probably go for a HS..

sorry if I am not in the know on this. But which MM basses are Alnico and which ceramic?

There's 2 answers to this question:-

* From 2008 onwards -All Stingrays are alnico, all Sterlings are ceramic. Nice and Easy.

* Prior to 2008 - Stingray 4's are alnico, but the Stingray 5 and all Sterlings are Ceramic. As far as I know, this is correct as far back as Ernie Ball have been in the picture. Pre EB, I'm not sure........

It's really only an issue if you're looking at a SR5. The 4's and sterlings have remained consistent all along, but a SR5 could be either ceramic or alnico depending on when it was made. I jokingly refer to mine as a Stingling (Half Stingray, Half Sterling) and you'll often hear pre 2008 SR5's referred to this way.

Sounds big and thick, doesn't it?

Sounds like my SR4 with one more string. :)

Question (I couldn't find the answer anywhere...):

The 3 way switch selects between parallel, series and "parallel+filter". What the hell is this parallel+filter position? Only thing I know is that it sounds more like my '83 ray in this position, and more like my 2007 ray in the parallel position.

Anybody knows what the "filter" is?

PS: There are diagrams with the switch positions on the EBMM site.
