I didn't think I'd ever get a four string, but I've been trying to learn how to slap and I find that with my small hands, I really have a hard time keeping the B-string under control.

The finish is "radiance red." It's kind of hard to photograph, but it's gorgeous IRL. I'm just blown away by the quality of this instrument, especially considering the price. She sounds and plays wonderfully. Yay for EBMM. :D

I noticed when I first picked her up that all the EQ knobs had their set screws facing me when they were at their 50% position. This is so awesome that it made me laugh. I love crazy attention to detail like that.

Very nice, man! I'm not a fan of maple fingerboards, but this one looks really gorgeous with the red body and white pickguard.

Dude, I see why you let those TBCs go!

My turn! I have lots of pictures for you :)
My musicman is 1990 all original SR5 which I bought for a ridiculous price equals to 500-550$ (in Israel the normal price for these is MIN 1200$ used and often sold for 1500$.. don't get me started about new basses price).
Anyhow, that bass is perfect, pretty beat up old musicman with the most beautiful neck i've ever seen on a bass(IMO ofcourse :)).
the bad quality of the pictures ar because of bad light+a huge amount of compression and a color that is hard taking pictures of, i'll try taking pictures in sunlight soon and see how it goes.

That's it. :)

Ooh I also have a question.. the weak G&D strings annoyed me very much so I adjusted the pickup height so it won't be an issue, the pickup height is 7mm to the string bottom of the B side and about 2-3mm on the G side.. It fixed the problem with the weak strings but now i'm killing the lower string.
Did anyone find a good pickup height that eliminates the weak strings problem without killing the other strings?

Errm... that's it! thanks for reading! :smug:

The recommended pickup height is about 6mm from the string. The weak G string is usually a characteristic of SR4's due to the alnico pickups, and not SR5s, (ceramic pups). But yours is a 1990 model, which means it has an alnico pickup (they didnt start using ceramic in sr5's till a few years later). There is nothing wrong with raising the pickup on the treble side. However it may help to boost the upper mids a bit as well.

The birdseye on that bass is a knockout! You made out like a bandit, getting that for $550.:D

My bass has alnico? I guess that also explains the sound difference between this bass and the newer sr5... I like the sound of my bass better than the newer ones, too bad it comes in the price of string imbalance. I guess everything has a price :)
Thanks for your quick response dude, I'll try changing the pickup height again later.

lol dude.. I bought the bass on the same day it was offered for sale... And the guy I bought it from lives about 3 hours away from my home, I didn't even know where I was going, just to get that bass before anyone else even sees the ad :)
took about 5 hours to get to his house (of course i got lost too many times on the way :P but it was worth it!)
And man.. I'd have payed 550$ for the neck alone!
Ooh, one more funny fact! the date on the neck is the same month and year when I was born :) march 90

There is stil subtle flame on a lot of the new ones. But the intense birdseye was a thing of the 90s. My 1997 sterling has a neck like the SR5 above^^^ while my new hh sr5 (2006) has a subtle flame around the end of the neck. (the flame becomes more apparent as the neck darkens a bit with age/use.)

Ah cool. I suppose now that I own one, I should read up a bit on the history of Stingrays. :p
