Hey elrick lovers!
I'm going to order a hybrid 5 strings Elrick with the following features:
body - alder
neck - maple
fretboard - wenge
holly top
bartolini j-style pickups and electronics
Xtended B string
black hardware

it will look like this (except for the pickups and fretboard)
what do you think? :)

Sound like it should be cool. Are you getting the extended B for the look or to make it easier to tune (as it won't tighten the B string)? It should look similar to this one I imagine:

How hard are you hitting the B? I prefer to play the B string with the same touch as the rest of the strings, but have never had problems with 35" scale basses.

The extended B cannot add any tension to the speaking length of the string. Even Fodera, who were the first to come out with the extended B and first to say that it could add tension, stopped making those claims shortly after. While it may change the feel of the string or possibly the sound the string may have, the tension on the speaking length of the string will not change at all. With that said, the XB headstock does make it easier to put a Hipshot Xtender on a more useful string (ie not the B string)- both of my Elricks have the XB headstock.

so how do you feel with XB headstock on your basses?
can you show me your basses?

do you know if would be possible also to install on a XB headstock a Hipshot Xtender to detune from B to A?

These are both of mine:

The fretted one was built earlier and the tuning pegs were placed slightly differently on that one, so the tuners go BAE, as opposed to my fretless (and any other XB headstock now I assume) that goes BEA. There is not enough room to fit an Xtender on any tuning peg but the lowest one, so if you want to detune from a low B to an A, you'd have to get a standard headstock. One of my old Elricks that I had Rob build me was a four-string with the headstock built large enough to hold four Xtenders, but I wouldn't advise getting a larger headstock built on a five-string. The XB headstock is fine to me- it looks very similar to the standard headstock which I like; some companies have extended Bs that really alter the look of the headstock.

Unfortunately that IS the family portrait :D I usually have to sell a bass in order to get a new one, and most of the Elricks I've owned had different specs that I've used to whittle down to exactly what I like. I've sold off anything that's not a six-string and 34" scale. I also had to sell off a six two years back when money was tight, so I just have the two now. I'd like to get another one, perhaps a bolt-on, some time this year, but I'm actually extremely happy with both of them and have felt very little bass GAS at all for a long, long time.

Seems like we're all in the same boat. Which is a Good Thing ... it keeps TB a major epicenter for GAS! :D

They used to make an "up and over" Xtender, but last I asked a couple years ago, they stopped offering them. Are they making them again now?

I've got a couple of questions about Elricks in general, and was hoping someone here can help me out.

* Do all Elrick Bolt-on 5'vers (evo and classic) have the same nut width?

* Do all Elrick Bolt-on 5'vers (evo and classic) have the same neck shape? (especially the first 5 frets)

The reason being ... I just picked up a Cort/Elrick RB5 to turn into a fretless, and was wondering how close their necks come to pure Elricks (as I only have the one Elrick, and it was my first one I'd ever played).

I've actually played very few bolt-ons; I've played a lot of neck-throughs though, and the ones that were not custom-ordered had very consistent dimensions.

Another "Q" ... are the Elrick 5'vers, non-custom order, nut width 1 7/8" ... OR does that seem more like a custom width?

Since getting the Elrick designed Cort ... I'm looking to do a Cort/Elrick VS. Elrick review thread.
TB has so many posts about how great the Cort/Elricks are, and heavily liken then to the true Elricks; but none of them actually compare the two.
IMO ... based upon the two I have .... the Cort/Elrick is close, but not close enough to really, truly, consider it to be an Elrick on a budget. With that, I'm trying to find out what the Elrick norm is; so that I can compare the two with more actuals. However, I think it is close enough to have it as a backup, or to bring it to the gigs where you don't really feel comfortable having your Elrick.
