Saw that a few days ago- crazy for an Elrick. I've never seen another one with a curved body, and the neck laminates are something I haven't seen since his much older basses. Very cool.

As I mentioned, I think the grooves in the zero fret were indeed put there, with the objective of managing the relief at the first fret (which would probably have been too high w/o them based on the little rise at the end of the FB). Perhaps one of the other multitude of previous owners can shed some light on this. I'll be excited to hear the end result of the new rout... awesome looking top and *super* light, hope it indeed has found it's home. The Valenti absolutely *rocked* at rehearsal last night, and has immediately made the cut for this weekend's gig.

Long scales work fine (at least on the standard Elrick headstock- don't know about the NJS headstock). I used them when I tested several sets of strings on two Elricks for the Strings forum. The standard headstock is a relatively short reach from the bridge, even with the normal 35" scale. A Fender headstock is a fair bit longer.

It's hard to tell from the pics, but the coloring (on the pink side) looks like bubinga. I had an Elrick with a similar wood/sapwood combo that was wenge, but the dark side looks too light to be wenge. I'm not a big flamed maple fan, but it looks like a pretty one.
