Post your Epiphone Ripper's here. Only rules are: Must be an Epiphone Ripper. Cant be a Gibson Ripper or any other Epiphone Bass. Tell us about any mods etc that you've done. The owners of these basses love them. They are a bit different, not everyone has them and they are a BIG, heavy bass with a chunky neck. One of the bigger bodied production basses around. Post and Be Proud of your Epiphone Ripper.
Here is mine, the Ltd Ed Ripper. I modded it by changing the standard pick-ups for Seymour Duncan P and J, 1/4 pound pick-ups.

Here is mine. Love this bass, the neck the body, the abalone fret markers, to the brass nut. I modded mine, replacing the P-pup with Fender MIA 62 P pups. It doesn't sound better, in fact, I don't know why I changed because it sounded fine before. Maybe it was because I had the pups laying around and thought it could only make the sound better. I was wrong So on again goes the old pups.

I found your thread via google and signed up... People react very oddly to Rippers;

either they love it or hate it.

I really fell in love with it and didn't hesitate to buy one(only €260 for a new one).

I'm bassplayer in a stonercoreband( Link Removed ) and the combination I'm using now really fits with the band's sound...

Shane, did you sell your Ripper? If you did I am wondering whether I am now the owner! About a month ago I picked one up from Muso's Stuff in Bendigo. It has Basslines P/J setup in it and I see that yours did as well.

Attached is a pic of my old black Ripper. At the time of the pic she had a Bartolini MM and Soapbar. Eventually she had two MMs and Bart preamp. Then the body cracked around the neck joint. Bye bye Betty

So I searched for another. Took well over a year but I found the newer blondie. The pups and preamp are going in this girl now. Soon to be put together, this weekend hopefully

Here's mine. It's a '99 model. The only mod I've done is added Dunlop Straplocks. Why tamper with perfection! I love mine so much, it's my username. BTW, It took me 2 years to find a hard case that fits. Epiphone Ripper cases aren't that easy to find in Oz. MBT Cases make a large bass case for Thunderbird, Explorer style basses that the Ripper will fit into... just. There is plenty of room for the body but because of the long headstock it's a snug fit. Muso's Corner in Newcastle is where I got mine from.

Another Aussie! My black one was the same year as yours. Let me say, if you are ever thinking of an easy upgrade, the Bartolini I put in mine was a 5 string soapbar. Can find the model number if you're interested. Only thing I had to do was file away the pickup routing a tad on the pickguard. She sounded doubly awesome then, with little effort. And stayed passive.

Just ordered an ebony ripper.
Thought about buying some g-3 pickups (for some reason they come up for sale quite often), making a new scratchplate with pots etc, to try and get a g-3 like sound.

BC Rich deluxe gig bag. This is the guitar one for warlocks etc and it will fit allmost any bass except bc richs warlocks, zombies, beasts. Very well padded, $55 range thru internet stores like musiciansfriend. Its wider then average body area will take the ripper just fine and its long enough for whole thing.

Likewise. I played one of these for about a year. Being a smaller guy, I got a lot of comments about how tiny it made me appear onstage, hehe. That's not why I sold it. When times got tough and I had to choose between my Precision and the Ripper, the Ripper lost. Maybe I'll buy another one someday. It was a really incredible sounding bass, and the setup on mine was damn near perfect. Played so easily.

She's now alive!

Custom pickguard (not perfect from CNC machine but that couldn't be helped). The number 7 means many things - it is engraved down to the white layer in the 3-ply. Bartolini MMC and MMX pickups, Bartolini 3-band preamp. Took a couple of hours for my chippie/drummer mate to carefully route the body - minimal wood removed. Battery compartment on back.

Sounds like a multi-headed monster!

Yeah. I lost mine to the "times got tough" situation as well. I went ten years with almost zero musical instruments (had no bass at all for most of that time) then I got back into it in 2007. The Epi Ripper was the first bass I scored after trying to get back into it.

They were already out of production but I found a place that had one and it took me forever paying it off in layaway, but I finally got it. Really loved it and planned to keep it forever.

Six months later, had to sell it. Went several more months before I could get anything else, and it is an SX P-bass. Good bass, but I sure would prefer having the Ripper back.
