Don't really notice the weight, but all the slop is gone, lots easier to tune. Going to be making a few mods, will post as I do them with resultsNice. Do they feel noticeably lighter?
Didn't really notice the weight, but these are much tighter a lot easier to tune no slop. Mods left: Thumbrest, Bridge Trapeze, Pickups, Making custom pickup rings, and new strap attachment location/method. Will post as I get them done.Nice. Do they feel noticeably lighter?
Here's a better pic of how I am going to attach the strap. Got a longer piece of leather coming so I can make top strap longer.Figured out how I want to attach the strap, going to approximate the McCartney strap with a leather loop in the positions shown, getting some black leather strips, but showing the idea above, that part of base is solid wood under top. Also installed thumbrests

No, space under neck so I attached loop for strap as shown in pick, waiting for longer piece so it will clear, but the idea is shown, also new pickups and pickup rings, when I get all parts will post pic with strap attachedThanks for posting these. So is there space beneath the neck for the strap to go under, or did you carve out the space?
So Here's the final strap attachment, also found an open wire tailpiece, makes string changes much easierExcellent, thanks! That really looks great. I look forward to seeing it with the strap.
Beautiful work, @Kev1955! Nicely done. If I understood correctly, that strap button near the neck goes into solid wood, correct? Howzabout the thumb rests? Is it also solid wood underneath there? So Here's the final strap attachment, also found an open wire tailpiece, makes string changes much easier

Where it screws in for the strap is solid, the thumbrest are not, the top where the thumbrest screw in is about 1/4 inch thick, so have to be carefulBeautiful work, @Kev1955! Nicely done. I found the tailpiece on ebay from a seller in Britain, but no problems getting it shipped to USA "BASS GUITAR TRAPEZE TAILPIECE WIRED OR OPEN FRAME, SUIT HOFNER VIOLIN BASS ETC" Ordered the open frame. It hooked right into the stock tailpiece anchor. Fooling around trying lots of things out when I get it done will post if some of these mods are worth it or how they work. Thanks, that's good to know, as I am seriously GASing for one of these. I'm glad you worked out a good strap arrangement.
Also, I meant to ask, where did you find that tailpiece? I like that a lot.
