So been fooling around with pickups, came up with an idea, ordered all the pieces,, when done, but basically going to use Bartolini Ric pickups 6RC and 6RT, stock pickup surrounds will work, when done will post

They all sound a little different.
1. The rogue is very hollow and deep sounding,It sounds best with the neck pickup alone and solo on.
Maby not as defined as the hofner ,it has it.s own personality and would fit right in with rock,jazz,classic rock .
2. The epiphone sounds more modern kind of solid Body and a little bit of hollow body sound
It,s versatile ,lots of personality going on,and built like a tank,very deep sound with just enough definition.
3.to me the hofner has it all ,hollow and powerful sounds best with both pickups on and everything wide open and on solo ,it,s defined and cuts through with a live band I like it wth a pick best,it,s fragile feeling but if I had to chose one the hofner rules,but actually they all would get the job done.
If you want the strongest one get the epiphone.
Thanks @Palo. That is good to know. I was very impressed with the Epiphone when I tried it a few months ago. The Hofners I tried seemed poorly made and didn't produce as much sound. I appreciate the info.
I think the Epiphone is the best-built in its price bracket. For Hofner, the Contemporary (CT) models built at the factory Hofner owns and runs in China are well made. (The Ignition model is outsourced.) Like the Epi Viola, the CT models have a center block, so for the fully hollow vibe, it's back to the Ignition or Rogue.
The Club and Violin that I tried were the Ignition series. I was very, very impressed with the Epi Viola. Gassing for one.
All done just the wiring up to go, hopefully in the next few days. Viola bass with Bart Rickenbacker pickups should be interesting

Decided to use EMG pots, soldered emg cable ends on the wires, ordered the pots when I get them plug everything in and play
New member from Canada, my Viola arrived on Thursday! Got a deal on a barely used Epiphone with case.
I owned a Hofner about 50 years ago, I was 12, it was used beaten up. Neck and body repairs etc. It was cheap, I played it very poorly and it played poorly as well.
When I turned 60, I decided to start playing guitar and keyboards again after a long layoff. On my birthday this year, I decided I wanted to branch out and learn to play drums and bass!
After my experience with the Hofner, I didn't know what to expect with the Epiphone in terms of quality etc. and while Im a better judge of Fender Tele's than I am of bass guitars, I am impressed by the Viola and am thrilled by the fit, finish and tonal quality.

Finished the Viola, attached is some sound clips. Still setting it up, but the big difference is the depth and clarity of the pickups. also a noticeable difference in tone between the two.
