Finally got this delivered from Russia. This 90's MIJ Edwards (ESP Japan domestic market) kills. Super slim, fast neck, low, low action. Killer tone (has a factory push-pull series/parallel on the tone pot too). Lovin it!

hello there! i spent the last few hours to scroll through this thread. im so happy to see some other happy esp bass owners :) here's one of my bass guitars. it's an 1984 (well, i guess...) 400 series precision bass. it had an white pickguard and other knobs which i didnt like so i changed it to a gold anodized one and some tele style knobs. it kinda looks more classic like that :)

let's get this thread active again :) here is my '99/'00 esp ap 200 in see through blue. i believe this is a pre version of the esp ap 200 model with a pickguard which were produced from 2000-2003. there are also some models with a miniswitch to change the humbucker from parallel to serial mode. i imported this one some weeks ago from japan to germany. this one is a killer instrument with tons of lowend.

congratulations for this one !!! I’ll be getting a similar esp model in the next day.

by the way. your bass is an „esp ppj yamashita model original“ made in 1985. check out the third variation of the ppj’s at this attachment taken from the esp japan 1985 catalog. this is one of the signature models of the bass player from the japanese heavy metal band loudness.

another one today. my 2012 esp surveyor ii bass with emg splitcoil and humbucker pickups and active eq. i use this one for my lower tuning stuff (currently drop a) and this instrument handles this very good. theres no need for multiscale/fan fret stuff with this one.
by the way: i don't want to show off my collection or something. i just want to fill the internet and this forum with some esp love, because i'm looking up quite a lot of informations for esp bass guitars and it's pretty hard to find decent informations. maybe there is another guy like me whos happy about people spreading infos for this small community of bass players. :)

Thanks for your reply, yeah i know it's a masayoshi yamash-i-ta I've also learnt about the censorship of his name haha, more just curious as my bass has no ESP logo on the headstock, though the build quality is exceptional and the hardware is in line with my two other ESPs of that period (see below)
If you're getting a PPJ do post a picture i love those things.
Also how does the Surveyor II go? im looking at one of those, the black with ebony board.

It's hard to explain exactly, like a P bass on steriods haha.
They're slanted, don't know if that makes a huge difference, and in reverse position which to my ears gives a more even account across all strings.
Maybe someone else could better describe it, i honestly got it because it was something different and wacky.

It's a great instrument and a good addition to all my vintage esp's. the active pickups and electronics sound full and rich. there are also no peaks, because of the hidden polepieces. the neck pickup alone sounds like a very ballsy p bass on steroids and with the bridge pickup blended in you will get a more modern and more jazzbassesque tone. there is also a very "wooden" nuance in the overall sound. it's pretty hard to describe, but i'll post two youtube videos of mine to show the difference. at the moment i'm using the bass with pretty thick strings for drop a (the first video is in b standard and the second one in drop g with the same strings) tuning and the instrument handles it quite good. there's no need for me to switch to multiscale basses or something.

the wilkinson bridge is surprisingly solid and the construction allows very fast restringing :)

I have this ESP LTD F-4E. I wish it was a 5E. Interested in trading? I love everything about this bass, the look, the sound, the feel, I started playing 5 string several years ago. It's just to hard for me to go back to 4 string in a live show. I probably need to let it go if I can't find someone to trade. This one is like new, no scratches. I have tried Facebook and craigslist, no takers. Even if I found someone on TB that had one like yours, and wanted to trade, I wouldn't know how to trade on TB. Anyway, worth a try. Good looking bass.
