About the EB85 & 170, 85 has a mahogany body n hard maple neck, 170 has a koa body & maple neck, both neck thru n 170 was double the price, not sure y. That's from the specs.
count me in, dude. I've recently bought a Fernandes atlas 5x 5-string bass and I gotta say it sounded pretty cool. For a passive bass it's got a nice punchy sound with warm powerful lows. I totally dig it. My friends and family were impressed by the look and sound of this bass. My brother complimented that the bass kinda looks like gene simmon's punished bass and I do see the resemblence. Even though the design reminds me more of a fender bass. Anywho, this bass is a real keeper. Number please.

anyone has have experience with the Atlas 4 Deluxe? They seem kinda like a neck-thru stingray clone, which kinda appeals to me. Are they nice? And how is the neck in comparison to a stingray? I've never seen a Fernandes at like a store or anything so i've ever tried one
I'm guessing that the atlas 4 deluxe has similar features as the atlas 4x, only it has active electronics, neck-through body, and the same awesome sound quality Fernandes bass guitars has provided. I may not have the Fernandes atlas deluxe, but I would say that the neck on my Fernandes atlas 5x has a neck that seems comparable to that of a fender p-bass. So if you like bass guitars that has a p-bass styled neck, then you probably will enjoy this bass.
I was wondering...you know how some people call Ibanez basses ibbys. I wonder if people call Fernandes basses fernies?

Trying to figure out what this is - it's a PJ but the bridge is not cast - just regular bent metal bridge. The neck plate says "FERNANDES" with a 7 digit serial number 6110xxx - no "made in japan" The headstock decal says "ELECTRONIC SOUND RESEARCH GROUP" ...
I've looked through the catalogs at the link given - and don't find anything quite like this one - all the ones in the catalog either have a Fender shaped headstock with a round string tensioner OR they have the hook shaped headstock and a rod string tensioner - and they all seem to have cast bridges unless they are a Vintage clone (in which case they would have a proper shaped headstock). I'm thinking it's a late 80's or early 90's Revolver 45 but it isn't quite like anything in the catalogs (at least not that I could see) and the serial number seems too many digits.
What year did they stop putting the ...Sound Research ... on the decal?

I have a Gravity 5 Deluxe. I had an Audere Classic 4-band preamp in it at one point and it was pretty close to a boutique bass. However at this point I may not be in the club much longer as I'm trying to sell it.
the tremor 4x is an awesome sounding bass. For a passive bass, it can provide you with warm lows and punchy highs. It's a pretty solid bass. I would say give it a shot. You might be impressed with that bass.
that's a pretty cool bass you got there. It reminds me of the Fernandes gravity 5x I once owned. It was a pretty cool. I now own a Fernandes atlas 5x. It's an awesome sounding bass. This one is a real keeper.
Definitely a great bass. A lot of people liked it better than a Rickenbacker 4004L 4-2-5 conversion I used to have. It's very metal, where I would say that Ric actually had a hip-hop sound. I just came to the conclusion that I rarely even play anything with a drop D for the most part, much less low B, so I don't need a 5 string. I have two great 4-strings, my custom 1969 spec Ric and my Jewstar Bass, and once I get a neck I'll have an incredible custom 1975 spec Jazz Bass as well. If I go for a 5-string, it will be a custom single cut with 27 frets to get that extra octave, and set up for E0. I actually have my Jewstar bass set up for F# right now, does F# a lot better than the Fernandes did (the Fernandes actually did F# better than the Warwick Dark Lord IMO), but not quite as good as a Conklin Groove Tools Bill Dickens 7-string I once had.
really?...a ric is more suitable for hip hop. I always thought of rickenbacker basses to be a rock and metal bass. Lemmy kilmister played one. So did geddy and cliff burton.
I personally find the low f# tuning to be a little too muddy. It did made wonder does anyone wanted to tune their guitars and bass guitars that low? Personally I prefer a low b tuning. Maybe an a-flat tuning, but no lower than that. Also, for the f# tuning, you get better clarity by playing the f# note on the e-string. That's what messugah did to get clarity with their sound. The guitar player plays low and the bass player plays higher.

It was a 4004L 4-2-5 coversion with a maple fret board. I had a 4004L with a Bubinga fretboard, and it had even more growl than a 4003. Also, Geddy switched to a BadAss bridge and I also think Cliff switched the pickups. Rob Trujillo has a 4003 with EMGs. In addition to a very stiff neck, a clear F#0 has a lot to do with the electronics as well. The Conklin had special Bartolinis and a preamp with a 23/30 Hz bass boost setting. It isn't about F#, it's about subcontra range. F#0 is totally different than F#1 (playing F# on the E string), just like D1 (drop D) is totally different than D2 (D string.) I actually wanted to tune to E0, but the .185 string was too loose. I had both a Warwick and an Octave4plus .175 in the past that were the proper gauge for F#0, so I thought .185 would be right for E0, maybe it would be on another bass, but I'm thinking I might have to go to a .200 if I want a good E0 on my Jewstar Bass, seems big because Jaquo III-X uses a .195 for C#0 and a .165 for F#0.
oh so it's a conversion, huh? That's cool. I remember playing those conklin basses at a guitar center a couple of years ago. I never thought a 7-string bass existed back then, but it was interesting to try out. Apparently I couldn't put my hand around the neck. I mean I can put my hand around a 6-string bass, but I personally prefer 5-string bass. I always thought basses with low f# note would sound a little muddy, but I would like to check out YouTube clips of those basses and see if they do have clear f# notes.

Hey guys! This is my Fernandes Tony Campos Tremor 5. I haven't changed anything as of yet (bought the bass a few weeks back
that's a pretty cool bass you got there. I bought a Fernandes atlas 5x a few weeks ago and it sounds totally awesome. I've been digging passive Fernandes basses. I've had a Fernandes gravity 5x and now I own a Fernandes atlas. Since I'm impressed with this bass, I plan to get a Fernandes atlas 4x for different tunings.
