Hi everyone! New here. Just moved across the planet, and had to leave all my gear with my brother. I'm currently trying to get myself back together.

Probably one of the most fulfilling 65 bucks I spent on gear, but I can't quite figure out what this is. I pulled off the neck and it's stamped PJ-60. However, I checked the catalogs, and the PJ-60 never came with this knob configuration. So it's either a 1987 PJ-65 or a 88/89 PJ-50.

Also, how do I find out where this thing was made? There's a serial number on the back, but that's about it.

It's for sure not the PJ-60 b/c they had matching headstocks plus other differences. I'm leaning toward the later PJ-50 due to the non-FGI pickups (unless I'm not seeing the labelling in your pic) and also the bridges look a bit different to me than the PJ-65.

I notice the body woods are different too but IDK how to tell which is which.

I'm leaning towards PJ-50 as well. I wasn't too sure about the bridge situation, since the catalogs were kind of blurry. There's a nice chip on the body, but you can't really make out any detail of the wood. Either way, solid bass for what I paid.

Next step: find a JSB of some sort.

....for me to find someone to work on this bass. To start with the factory nut was cut poorly on the D and G strings,with the octave strings sitting too close to the fundamentals. Fortunately,i was able to get Chris Benavente to work on it. He replaced the nut with a corian one,took off the high tension daddario strings and replaced them with a Kalium balanced set. The bass now plays great and sounds even better. Time will tell if i feel the need to replace the active pickup system,as it isn't exactly what I prefer soundwise,but it does actually sound pretty good. Other than that,it's a great feeling neck,a nice LIGHT contoured body,and it seems to stay in tune well.(thank goodness). It sounds fabulous in both bands i play with,and really is cool for just noodling around solo,very easy to play chords on,like my Rickenbackers.

I snagged a Tremor 5X and a Nomad from the recent Fernandes clearance sale. Haven't played the Tremor yet; it's mostly "get out of downtuning free" insurance. The Nomad is a lot of fun! And I found a deal on the guitar version for my wife. Here's our matched pair:

Getting an 80s Fernandes BC Rich Eagle bass copy today but I'm not sure if its all original or which model it is. Is there anybody here that can read Japanese and tell me what the difference is between the EB-85 (page 8) and the EB-170 (page 9) on this site?

I can't read Japanese, but looking closely it seems like the knobs, the 'racing stripes' and maybe the bridge are different? The dead give-away though is the pickups. The 170's are in a "S" (lower half of each pair is under the E & A strings) while the 85's are opposite.

You're right. I didn't even notice that. Looks like I have the EB-170 which, according to a kind translator on Facebook, is koa with Grover pegs.
Pics will be forthcoming once I get it cleaned up and restrung.
