That looks like the Gotoh bridge I have on a few basses. If so, I believe those (bridges) were made in Japan. However, the bass as a whole looks like Chinese origin to me. Most of the later Japanese basses were marked accordingly.

Yeah after researching it looks like a Gotoh, but looking through older catalogs it looks like these were used between 1996-1998. I might just have to take the neck off and see if there is a stamp or something.

Hi-- I know this thread is super old, but curious if you ever found out more about your older Monterey/LP Fernandes. I just bought one and hear tracking these serial numbers down is pretty difficult. Would like to find out more about it. Its a MIJ sunburst. Any help or ideas would be great-- thanks!

Just got back from a short Japanese tour, and while playing in Sapporo I scored a 1977 MIJ Power Bass. Or should I say a 1977 Fender P bass, because I've owned several 70's fender P basses and this IS one. beautiful neck, ash body, pu growl for days, the whole good thing about those basses. I have read contradicting versions of whether there actually was a lawsuit, but take one look at the "F" in fernandez on the headstock..and tell me whether Fender would have had a suit...

I paged through the posts here, and haven't seen one, though it's in the 1977 catalog on the Fernandez site. Unlike everyone's bass here, the serial # is stamped on the neck below the 20th fret.

Having said all that, I believe I am going to put it up for sale as there's something else that caught my eye in Japan. Take a look in the classifieds tomorrow.

I had my eye on that 8 string for a while. If I wasn't trying to unload some excess gear I would have bought it.

its a PJ bass with SN: FG02041078
I think it looks like Fernades Retrospect 4x - [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] what do you think?

Btw, can i get a number too... the last member with Retrospect 4x had #52 so I guess I'm #53. :)

I will post pictures when i get the bass.
