HO J’s and P’s are like rocking horse manure these days and the prices seem to be rising too. I was very lucky to get mine. I did see one on eBay last year and they pop up on Reverb occasionally. I have thought of refinishing my P at some stage.

Just curious....what is 'rocking horse manure'
I have an Irish and English background and never heard that expression before!
My Highway project. This was a burst highway that I sent to Pat Wilkins for a Vintage White cloak. Added a Fender Classic 70's 7.25" radius board (not the CIJ version that is 9.5"). These bodies are the closest to middle 70's as you can get......when you can find them.
Here is my Hwy1 P 2003. I had to sand down the neck as the scunk-stripe had dried out so there was a tiny crack back there. Added a couple of layers of tung oil and now the neck is lightning fast and flawless. I had to get new tone knobs as well as one of those were missing. And while I were at it I installed EMG Gzr pickups. I'm really pleased with the end result, it looks and plays fantastic!
Just picked this up locally. 2005 J to match my 2005 P. Was a bit grungy so I forgot to take a pic before removing the strings and starting the scrub down. More to come on this one for sure....

I hate those old bent plate bridges or whatever they're called, so I swapped out for a Gotoh 201 I had in my parts drawer. Also changed the pickguard and strings and setup to my specs. It's playing really nice now...
Took a peak at the electronics and it revealed it's secret to me....it used to be 3TSB.....
I am no expert but everything else looks untouched - however there are a few more wires and capacitors than I am used to.
Anyone know what's going on here?

Thanks. The good news is I kind of like it.
I always found rolled off tone to be way too muffled for my tastes where this seems to retain clarity all the way through the sweep.
The pickups on this bass are decent - pretty much what you'd expect for a J.
However, they do pale in comparison to my other basses - so while I was hoping to play this as is for a while - this bass is getting torn down, refinished and experimented with starting immediately.

Coat #2 on the refinish. It's hard to tell with the outdoor lighting and shadows but there is a nice metallic sparkle to the grey. Looks way better in person. Seriously reconsidering my relic idea and will likely go for a nice worn in look instead....
Refinished with a medium relic and some parts drawer upgrades:
- Gotoh 201 bridge
- Hipshot Drop D and Hipshot A string tuner
- Model J's
- Tusq XL nut
- Most relic'ing was done by highlighting existing dings, scratches and chips on this 15 year old bass
Was a fun Covid project. It feels, sounds and plays amazing.
