Official Joyo Club Part 2: Beyond Thunderclone

Thanks for the input, I'm expecting my UD to arrive from China any day now and I'm about to order an American in a couple of days. I was also considering maybe the tremolo or the flanger, although I already own a Japan BF-2 that I love, and I don't know if I can find a use for a tremolo in my playing... I'm confused... maybe I'll end up getting the digital delay(which sounds more like an analog to me) :p

I personally really love the Voodoo Octave/Ultimate Octave (ive seen it labeled as both; green one) although it's a bit noisy and the knobs take the slightest tweaks to make drastic changes. That's my favorite joyo pedal of the ones ive tried. If you're a fan of fuzz give it a shot although the higher octave setting isn't usable on bass. UD would come second but as ive stated before I'm just not much of a overdrive fan and have always been a bigger fan of fuzz/distortions. American is on my list to buy and also the tremolo. The trem has trimpots that can be adjusted to get into super choppy trem territory which is why i'm interested.

Ok now for the not so great. Have the digital delay which you're right tries to sound analog. I dont dig it. If youre a digital delay then sound like a digital delay. Aside from that if your into reaching oscillation territory in your delays this one is no good. It gets too an unbearable super high pitch whiny LOUD territory that it can potentially damage your speakers. Thats it for the bad from my experience lol

I have the compressor which sounded ok on my initial test run but havent really given it a shot. The classic flanger has sensitive knobs as well but you can get a good flange sound going but I realized it's a different flange sound from the boss sound, both good though. And the tuner, korg clone, works as expected. The phase 90 clone, ehh, I'm personally not a fan of phasers that have a blend incorporated with the rate and have an actual phase 90 so doesnt compare. But it's ok as far as the phase sound of it. But for me if I switch you on I want full on phase no matter what the rate whether super slow or super fast.

My guitarist uses the Voodoo fuzz. He likes it. Maybe I'll try it in my bass rig for ***** and gigs.

Well as Fuzz Addict club member #1 i would think it be your obligation to atleast try it out haha Yeah it has its own distinct flavor. I still always go back to my black russian but on occasion pull out the voodoo octave either solo to mess around or to put in front of another pedal I might be testing out and remember why I liked it so much. I definitely wont get rid of it and thats more then I can say about other fuzzes ive owned.

I didn't know that about the tremolo, you mean it can act like a volume switch cutting off then back on? That's more appealing to me as an effect on bass than the standard trem sound! Thanks for the info!

I'm not too sold on the d delay myself either.

Iirc the Joyo flanger is a clone of the MXR one, but between the mxr and the boss BF-2 I definitely prefer the boss, so I think I'll pass on that too.

And finally I already got an original Phase 90 as well, and love it's tone to death.

Now I'm torn between the Octave fuzz and the Tremolo (if it can indeed do the choppy thing).

Thanks for the input though, really appreciate it!

Well don't really know what you mean about a volume switch. But it essentially gives you the option to go from a triangle wave to a square wave to get further choppy then more of a blended volume drop. I dont think you can get to stutter status say like the idiotbox effects stutter which I think does essentially cut off your whole signal if my understandings correct. Again but havent tried it out myself.

Here this isnt a specific tremolo demo and he has several effects going on but this is what I mean by a more choppier tremolo. Obviously the rate is fast so might be harded to notice but for my needs if it can do this choppy and for the price thats a win.




EDIT: something like the idotbox effects stutter will do this amount of choppy but then again if you want to just do a slight trem you can't do that with the stutter. So again the versatility of the joyo at the price range would be another positive

Man I forgot who hear bought one and was the first to mention the trimpots and said it can get into choppy territory. This was like months ago. I've found other youtube videos where they're reviewing the pedal, demo it, and then mention the adjustments that can be made and they make some, but FAIL to show you how it sounds after? dont get me started on that lol But yeah earlier reports stated it can get to that amount of chop. Try it out and let me know ;p

It's true the GigaDelay was a great pedal with tons of features but for me anyway it seemed to alter my tone more than I liked. The D-Seed on the other hand seems to just duplicate my true tone more. I do miss how easy the tap tempo was on the Boss was as opposed the Joyo but I'm able to easily dial in 2 great sounding delays off of it and it does exactly what I need! I may upgrade to a nicer delay in the future but for now I really like my D-Seed

I always wanted the line 6 DL4. I'm sure I'll grab one someday. Now that's a delay. Huge. But a kick a** delay either way.
