Official Joyo Club Part 2: Beyond Thunderclone

So I finally got around to trying the Joyo American on guitar last night. I have to say that it's equally as impressive (if not more so) on guitar as it is on bass. Pushed the front end with the OD Glove and taken aback at the rich, harmonic-laden distortion growling out of my bass amp. I'm still kind of in awe at how good and versatile this little box is.

Finally got my American in! Mail lady got me on my way to work, so I ditched the paint and threw some clear knobs on before it even made it home. First 5 minutes with it just now: if you don't have one yet, believe the hype. Best 30 bucks I've ever spent on gear. Completely changed my mind on my Diabolik after moving it before the American in the chain. Incredible amount of sounds in this thing. Thank you all for the recommendation.

Where are you guys getting these knobs?

I work at a CB radio shop, so physically (knobs etc) there is a lot of crossover. I actually pulled these out of lighted knob kits, with LED rings designed to sit behind the clear knobs on the shaft of the pot. Hopefully in the next week I'll have a color picked out and wire them up to have all 6 kick on when the pedal is on.

Please share that process with the group. Sounds awesome!

Absolutely! Will do.

As a sidenote for anyone who hasn't taken the plunge yet: I saw a few posts mentioning paint removal with 0000 steel wool on an ultimate drive. Maybe the paint is different on the American, but after 10 minutes of fast and hard..ahem..scrubbing, I got nowhere. Ended up needing a wire brush wheel on the bench grinder to get everything off, and that was still quite a process. Maybe steel wool in Indiana isn't up to snuff? ;)

I got my American yesterday, but so far I've only tried it at bedroom volumes through the clean setting on my Line6 LD150 practice amp. The high drive high voice sound is /really/ cool even at that low volume, but for low gain sounds I struggled a bit to come up with a "like the pedal off, just better" sound. Even though I wanted it for low gain, I think I already see why people end up using it for high gain sounds. With the versatile EQ, it even turns my P-bass into a scooped metal humbucker sound just fine, in case I'd ever want that.

Looking forward to trying it out at volume, with other effects running through it, in a mix with drums and 1-2 guitars.
