The “ultimate drive” is one of my favorite pedals of all time.

“US dream” is my least favorite pedal of all time, and I used to own a snarling dog distortion pedal....

vintage OD is good too, as is the flanger, the phaser is just ok (spoiled by the small stone)

Can you talk about the US Dream a little more? I actually liked the sound of it on some guitar demos I watched, although from what I can tell its distortion level would be about at the top of my comfort zone for guitar and waaaaay dirtier than I’d use for bass. But I’d like to hear your impressions and (dis)likes.

Here is American and AC tone together,I used American more as a preamp and AC as a drive pedal.
For me they sound pretty good together.
I'm playing my passive jazz bass (fender CS 60s PU).

For me they sound pretty good together.
I'm playing my passive jazz bass (fender CS 60s PU).

It's important to establish what just the instrument sounds like in order to truly understand what the pedal sounds like.

If you like this, you should try the Donner Tap delay. Just got one...would recommend it! Slightly cheaper (at least in the UK) and includes digital, analogue and reverse delay along with a tap tempo function.
Built pretty solidly too..all metal. I was considering the D-seed but pretty happy with the Donner now. (Also have the Joyo Digital Delay which has done the job very well but not too popular round here)

Yes, I’ve already done a search. No, I haven’t found explicit confirmation they sound the same.

JF-16 update: I’m recording a song at home and laid down a bass track through the JF-16 and a iRig 2 last night, and it worked great! Squier P with chrome flats, fingerstyle. Joyo controls, across the top: bass 9:00, mid 12:00, treble 3:00. Next row...output cranked, voice 12:00, drive 9:00. This was pretty clean, and after I compressed the track a bit it got real smoove.

It had plenty of mass and just enough toppiness to let you glimpse the grunt behind the fairly dense lap steel track.

To anyone pondering whether a Joyo JF-16 British Sound would work for them for bass, here’s a sample:

Squier Affinity P with D’Addario chrome flat wounds, .045-.100>JF-16>iRig 2>iPhone 6S running the BandLab recording app. No processing in the track. Just the JF-16 as the tone shaper; see photo for knob positions.

I think it’s a pretty useable sound.

@mexicanyella all of the Sound series pedals do quite well on bass for clean, over driven and saturated tones. The magic is in the Voice & Drive controls.

I used it for the lap steel in that track too, with almost the same settings as pictured. With the lap steel I used the voice knob a little left of center to scoop it a bit more, and dropped the bass slightly. But I could have used it as pictured too. It was a subtle difference.

I looked but none of the knobs said “pitch compensator” or “not suck.” So don’t blame the JF-16 for my lack of lap steel chops!

Yes, I’ve already done a search. No, I haven’t found explicit confirmation they sound the same.

I've had the Clean Glass for a while and just picked up an American so I did a side-by-side using a Talman short-scale TMB-30 with EMG Geezer P pickup.

Overall they're very similar, but the American just seems to have more "grunt".
With the voice control at noon they're easier to match, but as you turn the voice up it's harder to get the same depth out of the CG.

The difference was much less pronounced with a strat (vintage A5 bridge pup) but still there.

It's been said that the CG is noisier, but I didn't hear that.
Possibly depends on power supply and electrical environment.

If you need minimum size, CG will get you most of that sound, but go for the American if you have space. It's just fuller and the 3-band EQ is much more flexible.

I actually use the bdi, it's of course really good.
But I'm looking for a preamp with mids control.
The Joyo série looks cool.

First I was interested by the Eden terra Nova.
Is it possible to get a clean boost, and use only the bass,miss and trebble controls ?

If I must choose one which have a different drived sound than the bdi ?
American, California ?
I listened the AC tone, it sounds good, but I prefer the 2 others.

I plugged my American last night after about a year it spent in a drawer. What a great pedal. It used to be my always on light OD. Now the TC Spark is doing that, and I used the Joyo for a bit of heavier distortion. Gets super crunchy and textured with Voice (which is afaik a pre-drive mids control, cutting at 500hz and boosting at 800hz) at 3 o'clock, compensated by cutting mids on the top row eq. Can't decide whether I prefer it before or after the Spark, different results but equally good.

The British will do a clean sound, but the drive has to be in the lower 25-30% of its range with my passive 4-String Squier P. You have to run the output control pretty hot to get much above unity gain when the drive is that low. So you might get a little signal boost while staying clean, but it’s definitely not that pedal’s comfort zone.

Also, the position of the voice knob definitely affects at what point the drive control starts to introduce dirt. High drive settings seem to hit the drive stage with a big load of upper mids, so it clips earlier. Low drive settings take out a bunch of lower mids, so it stays cleaner but also sounds quite a bit different that way.

it’s probably not as good a choice as the American if you want a decent range of adjustment while staying clean.

I get it yesterday, an Harley Benton ameican sound ( joyo thomann).
I gave a try at home; I was impressed by the quality of building and the sound....
The possibilities are numerous !!!
The voice button is crazy, how it could affect the sound and the drive, not really a blend.
Drived sound is really pleasant.
I've work on the drived sound, and the clean sound.
Not sure for the first one, but for the second, the voice all the way on, bass boosted, midd gently cut.... my bacchus sounds like a dream.
29 €...... incredible, when I see the price of a bdi .... or other tech21 stuffs

I found the American on sale an don't have an amp at home right now to test it. I'll use it to record some songs next month, maybe.

How does the voice/character (I can't remember tge name) work in your opinion? What are your go-to settings?
