hey there my fellow lakland owners I have a question about the skyline glaub and the possibilty of ordering one with a jo neck. I know the dunn fits this bill but I am not one for the glitz and glamour of the b&b. I remember the 1.5" nut width being available a long time ago but fear those days are no more.

Holy Schnikees! That's crazy!

Glad everyone is OK...

I keep hearing about these big power outages. What do you do with no power? How do you stay warm and eat and all that stuff?

Well, fortunately, we were able to go to my sister-in-laws house that still has power, but back when Ike hit us, we went 3 days without power, and it definitely made us appreciate warm water, warm food, etc. :)

They are still finished off by hand after the Plek'ing process. They really seem to have taken it to the next level. The one that I had was the best playing neck I've ever laid my hands on. Once I have access to my DJ5 again, I hope to have it Plek'd.

Glad everyone is safe and sound, we had a terrible icestorm like that several years back here in Iowa and went several days without power. At the time i was younger and thought it was fun, like camping... Until i had to sleep with the entire family right in front of the fireplace every night.

So the consistancy of a machine and the final settup and once over by a human? in your opinion should I wait for a DJ4 that has been Plek'd rather than buy a model in stock that has not?

Hi Sunney, greetings from far away! Unfortunately, Lakland hasn't had the 1.5" neck option on the Skyline Glaubs for at least a couple years now--probably since the Dunn was introduced. I have to say, though, the Dunn is a very sharp-looking bass!

Maybe I'm childish, but I wouldn't trust a machine to do my frets. There's something scary (or maybe I'm just neurotic) about hooking my bass's neck up to some machine that cuts things, what if a mistake is made and it cuts into my neck or something? I have always been impressed by the Lakland hand done fretwork and couldn't imagine it being better anyways, my basses play like butter. I just think something as tedious as fretwork is best left in skilled, careful human hands.

Congrats! That's a bummer about the damage, did you get it new? If so, contact Lakland, they want to know about this stuff and they'll do right by you.

Of the older Laklands, I have/had:
Scheff 4, JO5, 5501, 5502, HB
Of the plek'd, I've had the Decade.
The older ones I have play out well.
The Decade was the best prep'd bass outta the box I've laid hands on. I had to raise the action, and add a touch of relief to be able to play it with my ham-fisted double bass right hand;)
Impressive stuff, and a notch above the plek-work on several G&L's I had that came plek'd by them...

I hear what you're saying, PD, but having seen Lakland's machine at work, I can tell you there's no danger--those necks are locked in there, and Carl or someone from his crew programs in the settings before each neck is PLEK'd. That's one impressive, incredibly precise machine! As for the quality, I think the PLEK provides slightly smoother fretwork (more noticeable if you like low action) for the Skylines. But I agree, I don't think you can improve the US necks, and that's why Lakland doesn't PLEK them.

Nah, it was a used one i got from eBay. It was in mint condition before shipping, though.
