OH man!!! can you???!!! with a flame top you need a special category all to yourself!!! those are a Lakland rarity....I want to hear the entire story!!!

This bad boy's been wearing Chromes since shortly after I got it off of eBay a year ago. It's getting a fresh set of rounds (nickel Sunbeams) for the first time this weekend--time to see how much it roars!:bassist:

these are basically the two Laklands I would want.

how do the Dark Star and the Chi-Sonic pickups compare?

I bought that bass used for $900 canadian... I guess nobody around here knows what theyre worth. :cool: I noticed ive never seen another one like it so i emailed lakland, and they said theyve made about 100 with flame tops. It sounds out of this world and plays itself like no other bass.

Sorry it's taken some time to post but work, school, son, and wife are killing me time wise. I did get a chance to play this with the band on Thurs and will again tonight with the worship group. My impressions so far: first of the "fit and finish" are impeccable, the neck feels awesome but it will take some getting used to 4 strings after 6 years playing a 5er exclusively. Also regarding the neck, my Carvin has been the smoothest playing bass i've ever had (maybe because i'm used to it) but this Skyline kills it, no finish on the neck = super fast and hands don't stick when warm! Aesthetically this is the bass I've been dreaming about for a few years now, I've wanted a blue jazz for as long as i can remember, and then i wanted one with blocks, and then i found the DJ...

Tone wise it is perfect, way more aggressive (hot) with the Chis than my active Carvin and it begs to be slapped (to bad i suck). I love the tone of these pickups, they scream rock and roll but roll off the tone and you've got your motown sound.

I've only two issues with the bass, first, i've never had to deal with the single coil hum before (but new it existed, no knock against Lakland) and am just not used to it yet, but with pickups on full it's dead silent. Second, having a time finding a good place to anchor my thumb, i'm so used to having the B string as an anchor no matter where I'm playing bridge to neck. This is what i'm having the most trouble with and i know it will go away the more i play, the most comfy is resting thumb on neck pickup but i prefer the tone playing over bridge pickup but the strings are so taut there, i may put a rest right in front of bridge pickup which seems to be where i would play on my Carvin, off the front edge of the humbucker, i prefer the string tension there. These "issues" however are just my technique issues and are in no way a poor view of Lakland or the Skyline brand.
I love this company and their basses, between Lakland and Genz Benz and Avatar I'm feeling really spoiled in the gear department and that doesn't even began to touch on the amazing CS i've received from these companies. Thanks for indulging me.
