ok guys... i'm unbanning myself because i have a crisis.

i don't know what color to get on my next Lakland 5 string. I'm not even sure about what body to get.

Here's my list so far, in order of preference:

1. 55-94, quilted teal burst, maple neck
2. 55-94, trans white, maple neck - would get hardware powdered to black after receiving the bass, most likely.
3. 55-07, black sparkle (as on the DJ), fretted ebony board, matching or black headstock
4. 55-07, inca silver?, rosewood neck, matching or black headstock


If i get a 55-07, both pickups would have to be independently switchable; no passive tone, imo.

If i get a 55-94, i would end up rewiring the switch to function similar to a sterling switch where it puts the pickup into series, parallel, or single coil mode.

ideas? opinions? i'm going to be doing this through bass central because they already have some money i used to put a deposit on that dirty warwick i posted a pic of earlier in the thread. i'm just going to see if they can transfer the deposit into a USA Lakland. they have the first two on my list in stock, according to their webpage, but idk how accurate that is.

i should also add that black/maple isn't unheard of either. ;)

I pick 3 or 4, but I don't think independently switchable is going to happen. Inca silver with rosewood looks phenomenal in person. Black sparkle rocks too!

hey happyface, i would ask , do you want to wait 6-8 months for the same bass with different pickups?? the sound difference im sure would be huge though. but then so might the price.

you have had a 55-02, correct? if you really like the way it sounded i would say go for the 55-94. but you may want to wait til you get you chi'd dj5 and see if you want another chi'd bass.

you do have a hard decision, dont you:D

i would go with choice number 2 with chi's

yeah, after seeing the DJ5 for sale on here with that finish, i feel that with the ebony board, it would rock.

yeah, i'd have to wire it myself, most likely. shouldn't be too difficult. having to pull the electronics out would be a pain, but i doubt i'd be able to bring myself to solder near the bass until it's time to put everything back in, lol.

I know the price will be high...i'm already expecting that with this bass. Having the wait time would be nice so i could pay it over that time.

i've had a black/maple 55-02 and a couple 55-01's. i liked them all, but the 55-02 most of all. i really would like to get the 55-94, but having not heard active, humbucking chi's yet, i'm not sure. logically, i should go with the 55-07 since that combo is only available on that bass, and get a 55-02 to satisfy the J/MM pup craving. the placement on the decades doesn't appeal to me. however, having the DJ5 with single chi's and audere preamp might be more than enough to satisfy my chi-cravings.

it's a hard decision, but it'll probably heavily depend on what BC has in stock when i talk to them tomorrow about it. or if i find some more clips of a 55-07 tonight, i may be swayed. i've already listened to ed friedland's stuff on youtube and it's definitely tempting.

lol yep. mine, too. i wish i had a job or had more cash laying around when that one came around.

i'm not going to be able to justify spending two times the amount for two USA Laklands, so i might just need to get the 55-07. If i do that, because of the design of the pup covers, it would have to be black. if i do the trans white, i might be able to get away with doing black hardware and having it look pretty nicely.

then i could pick up a used 55-02 to rewire and play around with. Hell, i could even get rid of my sterling then!

...NOT!
