DON'T TOUCH IT.....I WARNED GUS NOT TO MOD THAT.......the passive tone knob kills...I love mine - so does Markus....

And I didn't!
I do love that passive tone knob.
OK, back from the gig (and I have to get up for work in 4 hours). I have to say, this is the best bass I've played in regards to feel and sound. It was perfect. It punched you in the gut while mixing in well. I dropped a few bombs with it, too (something from my bag of tricks) and it was like getting steam rolled. The sound guy from tonight was one I've worked with before and he came up to me at the end and said, "Whatever you did differently tonight, keep doing it because it was working."
Fat bottom, but still articulate. The flats work well on it. I don't know what else to say. You gotta hear it live, in the mix. If the chromes give it a little more cut, I'll give them a shot. Maybe I'll have time to head north a little and buy a set before tomorrow's gig.
One thing concerned me. By the end of the gig, I noticed tiny little cracks (?) in the fingerboard. It was very humid, so maybe it was from that. Maybe it's no big deal since they're tiny. I want to get in touch with Carl and find out the deal. If I need, I'll get the fingerboard epoxied, but I'd prefer not to.
All in all, this is it for me... I kind of want to order another one. Ya know, a backup or something. Either identical or very similar. It's a dilemma, a Callowhill 5-string or another DJ-Sonic Fretless.
OUT FOR DELIVERY![]()
woo!
black bridge gets here today, along with a couple other things.
what are you putting the black bridge on?
Niiiice! The Chi's are something special, no doubt. The Chromes do give more cut, although after a while I found I wanted more pure thump. YMMV, of course.
this one is going on the proto. it stinks because i was going to put the black hardware on the 55-94 and it has 3/8" tuners. Now i'm going to have to wait to return the tuners i bought and get new ones to put on 'fax.
i think you should keep the 55-94
did you ever check wich version of lh3 preamp it has?
the -94 has revC and proto has revD
Off to my repair guy... the burst gets a fretless neck today.
... now what to do with a perfectly good maple neck... hmmm...
Which Lakland would you get?
