I owned a markbass 1x12 combo I really really liked till some guy stole it out of my car. Yesterday my other amp blew up and I went to Guitar Center to buy a replacement, figuring I'd get a little mark head. But GC would not sell me the amp without tacking on a "service plan" I didn't want. A sleazy tactic, like buying a used car. I got so mad I walked out.

Sorry, Markbass is off my list now. The "initiation fee" for this club is too annoying

I borrowed a eden traveler head from a friend. This was a mixed gig, electric and upright, and the great thing about the little mark is the xlr in that lets me run the mic from my upright into the amp.

I don't really think the service plan for the MB gear is too bad of a deal. As you said, the "service plan" is mandatory so it isn't exactly something you can avoid. Just consider it a part of the price of the head rather than a separate charge and you'll feel MUCH better about your purchase.... especially after you bring it home! :bassist:

Depending on the taxes in your area you shouldn't be paying much more than $640 to seal the deal. When I purchased one from GC I was able to get a $640(+/-$5) deal and I got a gigskinz bag included with the purchase. you should be able to get a little something out of them as well. If you don't want a bag try and get a couple sets of strings or some sort of accessory. I think your salesperson was a little shady and greedy. I'm pretty sure the prices are the same nationwide. You could do a couple of things...

Mention to the sales person that the performance guarantee is included in the price.
Talk to another salesperson
Talk to a manager

The salesperson will definitely start jumping through hoops if you mention that you are a serious buyer and will talk to another employee about the head. If he/she doesn't then you know there is a store full of people who would love to sell it to you.

I told the salesman this was discussed on TB a lot. I told him the regional rep said on TB that this was proper procedure. He said he would contact him because he had been overcharging customers. I told him I had bought an LMII for $599 two weeks before. He looked it up and agreed. I was trying an F1.
I told the salesman that you reduce the price by the service plan and then add it. He said let me see if it will let me do it. It did.
I also returned it without hassle. He said, "wasn't your sound?" I said yep and he credited my card.

Ya, the same thing happened to me, and they gladly refunded my double payment.

Chadds, no offense but this is the Official Markbass Club, a haven from the Markbass persecution we suffer for overly liking an amp ;)
