That's my understanding as well.

Your new Ric may have some relief in the neck, I've seen it many times.

If you just label the neck "defective," without even taking a nut driver to the rods, I'm not convinced that's a QC issue at all.

And until someone gives us proof as to how these instruments are being warehoused, it could be a MF issue, not a Ric QC issue. We may never know.

So, another thing that's going to skew the results is that I've already heard from several posters to these threads who I question their knowledge and ability to properly set up a Rickenbacker 4003 bass guitar.

I strongly encourage anyone who isn't sure what to do with their new 4003 to take it to a QUALIFIED Ric technician.

I hope everyone who gets theirs don't have any further issues. Possibly they are discounting these because they know something?

I hope not as it would be very unfair to the customer and Rickenbacker if these were warehoused improperly.

MF has a 45 day return. If it is defective, they pay return shipping. If you don't "like" it, you pay return shipping. Pretty reasonable IMO.

I bought one in May from MF, and I used price matching to get a good deal, but not as good at this one!

Mine was flawless (Oct 2010 manufacture date) and I love it to death. It was Midnight Blue as well, as that is my favorite of the current line of colors.

I am excited to see this deal, even though I can't partake. It is exciting to see the TB community able to take advantage of this amazing deal!

No worries at all returning Rics to MF/Music123. They will take them back without a problem.

Yes, I just researched MF. You are right about their retur policy.

AMS however have a different policy.

Despite the somewhat European sounding name, every instrument bearing the Rickenbacker name was produced in Rickenbacker's own factory in California, U.S.A.

*There are no returns allowed on Rickenbacker basses.

If I hadn't bought mine last March, I'd have one on the way also. Love it to death.

Just so anyone not familiar with new 4003s doesn't get too much of a surprise: RIC sets the action at a fairly medium height from the factory, including the nut. The reasoning is that you can easily take it down lower if you want.
I'm still tweaking mine slightly lower bit by bit.

Anyway, that's my contribution to this parade.
I hope you guys all enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine!

I'm in love. I got it, and the action was sky-high. After giving each of the two truss rods a half turn, the neck went totally flat and the action is nice and low where I like it. The ergonomics take some getting used to, but It feels very much like my p bass.

The sounds? Wow! Again, I'm in love. How it will sound in the mix is to be seen, but right now, I'm smitten. Pics are forthcoming. If y'all will excuse me, I'm going back to playing ;)

Congrats, way to approach a new bass with an open mind and a little know-how.

I am GREEN WITH ENVY. I already have three, and still I'm so angry that I can't (won't) let myself buy another. What kind of sick GAS is that anyway?
