Meh... I'mma say something rather unpopular. I think they should have dropped the horseshoe pickup rout like a bad date a long time ago.

Of course I can modify it to suit my needs with or even without the bezel... and I bet if they changed it legions of fans would cry foul.

Get back on topic guys, if you've forgotten it's MID 4003's for nice prices.

As for the hole, put a dedicated plastic trinket in there or your thumb, it's not difficult.
No body is going to cry foul if you go buy a 4004;)

You'd be surprised at the effect that big route has on the sound Joshua. When I was routing my 4004's to use the same hardware to mount HB1's, I noticed a distinct "notch" appear in the sound afterward that wasn't there before. I believe this is one of the happy accidents or quirks that makes for that classic Ricky sound, even when different pickups are used.

Caps are considered yelling. Commenting on my font syle is considered rude. I've always used this font on this and other forums as well as my emails. It's easier for me to read.

Oh noes, better patent it:smug:

:hiding:

I've been lurking this thread for awhile trying to justify a 2nd 4003 and can't

Jealous that it was the midnightglo that went on sale, but I'm better off with what I have.

Rather have one than none...and as for the pickup cover debate...shame on all of you who cover it up:scowl:

I sometimes wonder why they haven't dropped the route, too I figure it has to do with retrofitting the horseshoe into the modern bass. They did sell a few recently. The advantage to dropping the route would be an easier fit of the humbucker pickup in the slot, but I'm sure many would cry foul if they did. RIC is really up against a wall sometimes with trying to introduce improvements while a number of customers or potential customers want everything to remain the vintage look.
