Not sure if my experience still counts as new, but I documented my Ric adventure in my review. The short answer is that I have basses that cost me a lot less that I've been a lot happier with - basically, it's strange to have to mod such an expensive instrument to be happy with it.

When I heard about this sale last Saturday night, the first thing I did was check Ebay and sure enough, there was a used Midnight.. for $1300 with 20 Bids on it and two days to go. Oh well, sometimes people on ebay are clueless, I've seen people pay more for used than they could've gotten for new tons of times.
