Official Orange Club II

Sorry to derail the head conversation but was wondering if folks would share a pic or details of the settings on their combos? I have a OCB100 and with the sweep-able mid was curious of settings out there. I know it won't translate exactly but just thought it would be fun to try a few, playing a fender P with D'Ad chrome-flats straight in.

Related to that was wondering how people with a combo actually use the EQ or set it flat and use a preamp or even a pedal in the effects loop?

Thanks!

My normal noise with the Nash PB-63. Sometimes I throw a Lizard Queen in the mix when I'm feeling like a bad mofo.

Anyone know why they stopped making the TB1000? I noticed the TB500 has a "Clean Switch", which I don't see on any images of the TH1000. Were there problems with the TB1000? I know a 1000w amp is not "twice as loud" as a 500, but if anyone has had both, I'd like to know what would be the reason to not get a used TB1000 over a TB500. I'm always of the mind that it's better to have power and not need it than need it and not have it. But, the "Clean Switch" has me curious as well.

I met Ade once in Frankfurt and once elsewhere here in Germany. The first time he was surprised I wanted a picture with him, so the second time I just talked gear for a couple of seconds. One question that came about was the TB and the OB1k, both discontinued I believe at that point. He cryptically said something, to the likes of "yeah, I liked that one [the TB], but one could go closer [to the AD sound]. Nobody needs 1000w though, 500w is enough if you do them properly" or something like that.

Hey all. It still working in reading all of the posts in this thread but I've got a quick question that I have t found the answer to.

I have a Mesa Prodigy and am looking at getting a pair of OBC115 cabs to go under it. Is this a good combination? I like an aggressive grindy type tone. I don't overdrive the preamp but run it on the edge. I am not completely sold on the Prodigy yet and may end up replacing it with a 4-stroke. How does the 4-stroke sound through these cabs? Is there a better head to pair with these cabs and give me the tone I'm looking for?

I have a 4 Stroke 350 and 2 OBC115's and that amp kicks through them. If you crank the compressor to about 12:00 and beyond it gets grindy. It is also a very versatile amp with it's 4 band parametric EQ.

It's a pretty good combination although I prefer the Terror Bass because of it's tube like fullness and ability to crunch. But when I play the 4 Stroke through those cabs, that hit can be pretty addictive.

Tried those settings and it sounds great with my Fender P! Never would have given that much treble but somehow it works. Is the pad button down or up in that pic? And where do you run your tone knob on the bass, just curious?

I dont pad.

Tone almost to the very bottom.

My Nash has Lollar pickups and I use Swingbass Nickel 66's and Nickel Markbass Grooves. Both are rounds.

Does anyone know if the AD200B needs 6550A, or 6550B, or 6550C, or if it matters at all.

AFAIK these designations mainly represent evolutions within one brand's product. When they improve a model, the older model is eventually phased out.

My AD200B is running JJ 6550s and it sounds great and has had no problems. But it's a pampered basement queen.

Excellent setup. I run the OBC115's with the AD200B MK3. I love it, but sometimes i feel i need more headroom. I'm thinking of getting the Terror Bass for times i need to keep up with the guitarist. haha

Is this something that can be done with a multi-meter, by someone (me) that is reasonably capable of learning how to do it, or does a tech with an actual scope need to to do this to be sure it's done perfectly?

It's something you can do with a basic understanding of tube circuits and the ability to read schematics, so you can identify the bias trimmer and test points.

The amp has almost 700VDC inside of it, so be careful what you touch. A mistake could prove lethal to either you or the amp.

If you spent a fortune on GEs, it might be worth paying a technician.

If you decide to push ahead and do it yourself. Post 23 of this thread has unofficial schematics that are pretty accurate. The official schematics are in post 25, but they are very low resolution...IMHO grab both sets.
