back on page 15 there is info/specs on replacing the lightbulb for the TB500/1000

I'd like to get an OBC810 in black tolex. For those of you with one, or know about the 810, how would you describe the tone of her? I want one for the sonic color it's capable of that differs from say, an SVT 810 Classic or what-have-you.

I don't have one, but I almost always test new gear on one. There's a store not so far from me where they have one and they always let me use it.
It colours your sound somehow, but in a good way. It's not hifi at all. I would say it is vintage sounding and a bit dark, but someone here could correct me.

Oh cool. what head do you usually use with the OBC810? I've heard "dark, vintage, old"...before. It's known for it's coloration. i hear. just curious as to what those colors are, and if the sound blossoms off the grill, or if is it more of a direct sledge-hammer blow?
I've used a Bass Terror 1000, an AD200B and a Mesa. I would not say its old per se, it's simply not that modern sounding. I think it is its construction and the fact that it does not have a tweeter.
All heads sounded great with the cab, but the Terror was the cleanest (and loudest, I forgot to adjust the volume before turning it on and almost went deaf). The AD200B sounded the best to me, creamy vintage warmth with some hair. The mesa was in between those worlds, cleaner than the AD, louder than the AD and warmer than the Terror. The box gave to all this depth, I don't know how to describe it, it's like it tames the harsh sounds you can get from the TB. I think that's the thing, it just cuts the shrill without sacrificing the highs.
I've played close to it and not that loud (being in a store and all) so I can't tell you how it sounds 3 meters away from it, but in the close, it has plenty of warmth and packs a punch. I'm just guessing by the looks I get when I play there, that it can be good heard from the distance.

Any one on here running a TB500 with Aguilar cabs? Thinking about a couple of SL112s with a TB500 should kick butt.
Thanks for your feedback. I have the SL112s but just a little unsure whether the TB500 would blow them up as they are only rated 250W RMS.
Sold the TB500 and picked up a AD200B.

Currently cabless unfortunately. Sold my old cab to help fund an Atlas 215. But I will try the AD200B out until then on some old bass cabs my buddy's dad built.

Nice Amp, it is one of the best sounding heads out there, and it does not have 1000 knobs like Hughes and kettner!
Thanks! Well, I'm still waiting for a cab for it, probably not going to play it for a week or so.
Just got my TB500 back from Orange USA, and it is an entirely different amp...sounds amazing! I picked it up from a local TB'er and was digging it fine, but it had the super hot DI, so I called Orange. Even though I bought it used, they offered to address the DI for free if I paid for shipping both ways. While they had it, they went ahead and replaced the board that was causing capacitor issues for some people and replaced one of my preamp tubes. They even sent me some nice swag because there was a delay in shipping it back to me. Outstanding customer experience. Had my first practice tonight, and it absolutely sings. Before the service I couldn't get the gain past minimum without serious, unusable tube breakup (same with the DI out). Now I can get the full range of gain without terrible distortion, and it's overall very responsive and not woolly at all. I bought it for the 60s gig I have, but I'll probably be throwing it into other situations now, too. Will try to post a rig pic after the gig on Friday.
