Bought a used AD200 Mk3 here a while back. Replaced the preamp tubes which may have improved the sound. But gotta say the focus here on the cabs you put below it is spot on. (I'm begrudgingly starting to agree with the voices here who say the cab is the most important part of your rig.) It has a nice sound through the so-so cab I leave at the practice room, but it really shines with a better cab.

And for all the weight-obsessed guys here - my gig bag is so much lighter now that I don't have to tote a Fulltone Bassdrive around... just turn up the gain. ;)

Has anyone changed out the stock 6550 set for KT88 tubes?
Curious as to the difference in headroom...

i was going to, but the volume really isn't a problem even with 6550's. Playing live in some pretty big rooms I still have yet to go past noon on the Master (gain's usually around 11 o'clock to noon). For 200 tube watts the thing really packs some juice.

If you change out the preamp tubes, you can get a little more clean gain, it won't dirty up as fast.

Or try putting a 5751 in the V1 spot to get a lot more clean gain and thus more volume.

Hi Every Oranger!

Have some of you any kind of soundfiles that can be PM-ed for me,because I really want to buy an Orange head in the near future, but don't know how does it sound. (I've only heard it in mixes, not alone) And is there anything a proper "Oranger" should know about this head? Hows it's reliability? Are there any problems, with tubes,or overheating? I've read a few reviews, that the 200w isn't enough and the amp sounds weak when it's cranked. What is your opinion about this? How big cab should I pair with this head? What is the smallest one? (in wattage...so if it's 200 w-than if I have a 250 w cab would it be fine? )

I've got a thread about my new full-tube amphead, where I can't decide which amp should I choose for our classic/hard rockish Audioslave and RATM and Guns'n Roses inspired music, the SVT-CL or an Orange. :) I love the look of the Orange...it's so cool...In my head it sounds as cool and badass as it looks. :P :D

Thank you for the answers, hopefully I'll be the part of this club in a month or so. :)

Please forgive that 'other' rig. :D

Can I join the group? I only have the Orange 15" cab, but running along w/ the SWR 2x10 and out of a early model Ampeg V4-B...
A bit of the old w/ the new :smug:

Still gassing for an AD200B though - seems like a few months ago there were about 3 or 4 on the black market...

Hey Spinal I use a V4b and am thinking of the Orange but as a stand alone. Since there are no local dealers who have the cabinet for me to try it would be mighty helpful if you could give me an assessment as to how the 2-piece rig sounds.

P.S. is that the 4 ohm SWR?

You know - I actually haven't tried just the Orange 15" w/ the V4-b itself...

The SWR is an 8 ohm, so I prefer to max out my impedance w/ the 4 ohm setting out of the V4-b. Maybe when we get our stuff out of the studio this weekend, I'll hook up the Orange cab w/ just the V4 and let you know how it sounds. I would assume it would have too much low end, but who knows.

BTW, Over the weekend I hooked up my V4 to an old school Fender Bassman cab w/ the 4x12's (that face eachother) that the studio provided...god...that paired w/ my Geddy that I just restrung w/ Roto 77 flats...talk about vintage tone! :p

I'll post some sound clips and pics...probably in another thread though. Cheers!
