Hey if someone comes up and asks me if they can sit in for a song I say sure,, Why not. But here's the rules... Don't change any of the settings on my rig, and you see that Brawley 6 string back there??? You can play that...

Unless you're a fellow Roscoe head,,, don't ask.. I know,, I'm an A-Hole.. Get over it...

They can be fine tuned via variation of woods and Electronics but a Roscoe sounds like a Roscoe.

It don't get no better. And as good as they sound, they play even better!

A good Texas dry rub, heavy on the salt, is my preference for rubbing into wounds of this nature...
Thanks for the compliments Jazzdogg. At the time of those recordings I used my Jazz basses. But I primarily play the Roscoe's now. They sound every bit as good but with substantially more sack (if you know what I mean). The only other bass I play is my Jerzy Drozd with the Bart J pups and pre. Thats why my fantasy Roscoe will have the Bart pups..

So I have a confession.

I've been cheating on the Roscoe a lot. Like, for at least a month. My Lakland JO5 has been getting all the work (and subsequently, has me lusting for an Alleva or F Bass).

But tonight, I was feeling pretty ashamed. I dusted off the LG, and what better time to do so than a gig where a totally obscure celebrity shows up:

That's me, the LG, and "Fast" Eddy McDonald, one of the all-time great Canadian yo-yo players. He was one of of my (obscure) teenage heroes, and 20 years later, still holds many Guinness world records.

In the photo above, Eddy's doing his trademark loop-the-loops for which he holds the world record of 8,667 times in an hour.

Okay, enough obscurity. I promise I will only post again when I have a photo of me and, umm, Pino Palladino.

I forgot just how good those recordings do sound Steve. What ever bass you were playing, you did indeed get a great tone! :bassist:

Hey Joe...

Recordings were done in 1990, I used both fretted and fretless Fender Jazz basses.
Two of the songs I didn't play on for those sessions (I was in Seattle) I'm not sure what was used on those tracks. The song Zawinul used the Keyboard bass line I originally wrote on my Ensonic SQ80 (I was in Seattle), I would much rather have played bass on the song. My way home was recorded with my fretted SKB 3006. Nuba Rites is all my frettless SKB 3006.

Steve, I've listened to those cuts easily a dozen times, and I'm still continually knocked out by them. (Folks, thank me later: wear a fresh diaper for 'Surfing with Ghandi.') Your playing is magnificent and inspiring, your tone is off-the-hook ridiculous, the compositions are stooooopid-good (I love the mix of familiar and new...Weather Report, Vital Information, Steps Ahead...it's in there, but just as spice to complement the stew), and the ensemble is greater than the sum of it's bad-mo-fo parts.

You all are far too kind. I am humbled and thankful to you all. I can only say that I am in awe of all of your playing and the top notch brothers you are. Gotta love being part of the Roscoe Head family..

Now back to the fun.. A way off topic High-Jacking but this is some of the funniest stuff period...
