EMG: looks like a BTS system will do the job. Volume, pup rotary selector, bass and treble.

Yep. I added the VMC and took away the pan pot because I yanked the piezo in favor of individual saddles. My fretless is still stock, though.
Is that bridge replacement easily done? I don't really have a use for the piezo system and would prefer a more easily adjustable bridge.
Yup, they just drop into place. I still want to make a shim block out of brass so the saddle adjustment screws aren’t extended as far, but that’s minor.

If anyone out there has a 5 string Fretless Synapse for sale let me know. Looks like this topic has been quiet for almost a year, but it is worth a try.
An amber one has popped up near me so I reached out to them to see if they would be interested in a trade of some kind. The action looked low in the pic so I assume the TR isn't stripped/broken; I have three sets of Status strings so I'm not worried about the fragile string adapters. Others have mentioned that they are tender with their truss rods, and I really don't want to take the risk, but I like the tone these produce and if I'm gentle I might be able to get it to last for me (provided I can work out a trade). That, and I'd have another headless again that sounds decent, which is my main motivating factor.
Any thoughts? Is it safe to assume that every one of these is a truss rod time bomb waiting to happen??

I personally think the Synapse truss rod concerns are overstated - they happen, but aren’t that common. If you treat it like a Ric 4001 and manually move the neck instead of cranking on the truss rod to flatten things out you’ll be fine. I would just be sure the truss rod is functional now before you buy.

I bought this 5 or 6 years ago and didn't really do much with it. I cleaned it up and played it at a couple of rehearsals and that's about it. I've been playing a couple of G&L L2500s lately and really like em. One of them I bought was strung with new D'Addario Chromes ECB81-5SL and I was impressed with the tone as that combination has a great growl. I decided to try and string the Synapse with them to see how it would effect the tone.
The string diameters for the D'Addario Chromes ECB81-5SL Flat wound are .045 .065 .080 .100 .132
All fit great except the low B. Diameter thru the headstock only allows .128 diameter.
To open up the headstock for the .132 B string, I did not use a drill. Instead, I used a .134 diameter reamer and reamed it thru with a hand chuck. I first removed the set screw and then fed the reamer thru the hole from the end of the neck towards the body. I slowly rotated the reamer and fed it by hand firmly letting it cut the hole size .006 larger than original. Do not let the reamer rub but do not overly force it and do not hit the nut.
For me, the tone improved, but later on I might change the piezo out for the saddles and install the EMG DC or maybe the EMG DCX as was described in some of the earlier threads.
