Hi folks,

Did anyone got problem with the B string problem on the Gibson Tobias Basic. No matter what I do my low B sounds really dull. It lacks attack, dynamics, and notes have like a "swell" like quality to them.

The B string on my 35" scale Spector sounds much better than the Tobias (which is 34"), i used same Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings set (.130 B string). Please help

Very difficult to comment in a categorical way. My Nashville crafted Classic 6 has a B string that is just as resonant as all the others; VERY even. Your issue could be something about the neck on that particular instrument. There are some things to check. Set up needs to be correct. Also, presuming the original bridge is still in place, you've got to look really hard at the break angle on the B string. The B saddle tends to be set back the furthest, which increases that break angle. I've had to move bridges back to resolve or improve that. Also, sounds like pickup heights could be a question, depending on whether you hear the lack of response acoustically or not.

Played my Growler 5-string at a gig this weekend... man that's just a great bass. It's mostly a 'backup' bass for me, but you really can't fault it from any angle... playability, tone, ergonomics, it's got it all. I've got some other pretty nice basses, but honestly if this was the only one I had, that'd be fine too.

Hey guys. I was needing some help if there was someone on this forum that has any info. I am looking at a Tobias bass and wanted some info. I have an ad up already and from the looks of it, it is a Toby. I am not sure exactly, but all the info I have right now is in the thread below, along with the Craigslist ad.
I am really concerned because there is 'USED" stamped on the back of the headstock. I was wondering what they would do that for (damaged, or something else wrong with it)? I am waiting on more info from the seller. I have looked thru this thread and hadn't found any info yet about the "USED" stamp, so any help is greatly appreciated!!
Also, what would be a decent price for the bass??? So far everyone is saying it is overpriced for that model.

Hey bass10bfb,

Can’t believe no one replied to your post! Hope this isn’t too late to be of help, but perusing the Talkbass “For Sale” section and ebay, $500 appears to be a typical price. Ebay shows some selling recently as low as $330 for a 4-string and as high as $700 for a 6-string, but $500 seems average for a 5-string. Maybe you can snag it and join us soon!
