Hey guys, just got a great deal on #2098 Basic 5, NEVER OWNED!! It has a great history and a really cool story. It was a demo that was sent to a local store, stolen out of the Gibson rep's car, then recovered and sent back to the store. It was shuffled away in their warehouse somehow until last year! I just happened to ask if they had a Tobias, and I bought it on the spot. Amazing bass, couldn't be happier!

Here is my pre Gibson/Nashville Tobias Classic 5, Bubinga/Wenge/Alder. Got it form a guy in Sweden and it is dead mint! I don't think the guy ever played it. It's from the 1990-91era of Tobiases. SN#1475. Please add me to the list: darryl1965

OMG, that bass is stunning! I love Bubinga! Please don't ever put it up for sale – I'd have to have it, and my wife would kill me!

Hello all,

Thought I'd share my latest Pre-Gib Tobias. This beauty came all the way from Hawaii to Michigan. Absolutely stunning. Excellent condition and just killer, killer tone. The "Basic" had its own mojo going on vs. the Classic or Signature due to the solid body wings. Original TCT Pre and original POTS. Non-Center Dent Treb, Mid and Bass Pots. Love the Schaller Bridge too! This one wont be going anywhere and will live out the rest of her days with me lol. I will be on the prowl though for a 5 string Classic or Signature in the coming months

Done! Thanks. So that's bubinga, eh? I'm thinking about replacing the plastic trussrod cover with wood, good to know what type of wood to look for.

I would have thought it was Mahogany, but either way it's a beautiful Killer B. Having owned two Killer B's, a Basic, and a Classic, I can say I always love my Mahogany Killer B the most in terms of sound and feel (looks were good too, but that Classic was hard to beat looks-wise).

I happen to have a piece of mahogany laying around, from a project to make a custom pick guard for a jazzbox guitar. So here's the KillerB 6 with that in place of the black plastic. Not a perfect match by any means, but looks far nicer.... I'll keep my eye out for a better matching piece

Thanks, I was going to suggest a shot with better lighting. I think I'm going with svoncampe's estimation of mahagany. Bubinga is usually a bit redder and has some figuring.

I've decided the body wood is inconsequential. The wood trussrod cover I made sorta matches the dark wood on the headstock, so it's good enough for now.

I'm thinking to eventually get a small block (4" x 4" x 1/2") of Pau Ferro, and make a trussrod cover that functions as a fretboard extension. It would come out looking sorta like this:
